Chapter 341 Not Talking to the Shameless
"Mom," Cecily whispered, her lips trembling, her voice choked with emotion.
Vivienne reached out, gently touching Cecily's cheek with tender fingers, her hand warm and comforting.
"Cecily, you've suffered so much these past few years." Vivienne's voice was choked with endless guilt and heartache. "I'm so sorry."
As a mother, she had failed to protect her daughter, allowing her to bear a burden of hatred that wasn't hers.
Cecily shook her head at Vivienne's words.
She knew Vivienne must have had her own hardships during these years, or else she would have come back sooner.
Cecily reached out and hugged Vivienne tightly. "Mom, it's good that you're back. I've missed you so much all these years."
"I've missed you too." Vivienne felt the warmth of Cecily's embrace, and a wave of warmth surged through her heart as she closed her eyes deeply.
Watching their reunion, Darian lowered his gaze, standing quietly to the side without interrupting.
Vivienne noticed Darian standing silently nearby.
Seeing his calm demeanor, without any resentment towards Cecily for her sake, Vivienne felt a mix of relief and guilt.
"Don't cry; your eyes are still being treated," Darian reminded Cecily.
Cecily sniffled. "I know."
"Cecily, how are your eyes? What did the doctor say?" Vivienne asked, concerned, looking at the bandages covering Cecily's eyes.
"The doctor said I just need to rest. I'll be fine," Cecily replied.
Vivienne glanced at Darian, who furrowed his brows, his expression serious.
Had Cecily been able to see, she would have noticed his concern, but she couldn't.
Vivienne's nose tingled with emotion again, her trembling fingers gently caressing Cecily's brows. "Yes, rest well. You will get better. My daughter will definitely get better."
Cecily's lips curved slightly. "Mom, don't cry. Once I get better, I'll be able to see you."
"Okay." Vivienne wiped away her tears.
"Mrs. Bennett, the banquet hall is reminding you to come over," a servant, who had been waiting for a long time, finally found an opportunity to speak.
Taking a deep breath, Vivienne composed herself, her voice regaining its usual coldness. "Alright, I understand."
Vivienne took Cecily's hand. "Would you like to come with me?"
"Yes," Cecily nodded. She wanted to go, if only to hear how Eliza would try to defend herself.
"Then let's go together." Vivienne held Cecily's hand tightly, her eyes gleaming.
From now on, Cecily would have her mother by her side. She would see who dared to bully her.
"I'll carry you." Darian offered in a low voice.
"I want to walk. Just let me walk," Cecily mumbled softly. With her mother here, it was too awkward to interact intimately with Darian.
"I want to carry you. Let me carry you," Darian said, his voice softening as he held her hand.
Cecily's heart fluttered. Darian's words left her at a loss. One of her hands was held by Vivienne, the other by Darian, filling her heart with warmth.
Vivienne smiled, placing Cecily's hand in Darian's. "You're still injured. He wants to carry you because he cares. Let him."
"Be good," Darian bent down, effortlessly picking her up in his arms.
Cecily quickly wrapped her arms around Darian's neck, letting out a soft gasp.
Darian immediately asked, "Did I hurt you?"
Vivienne also grew concerned. "Where does it hurt? Should I call a doctor?"
"No, I just tugged my wound a bit. The pain will pass. I'm not made of porcelain. You don't need to worry so much."
Darian frowned, looking at Vivienne. "You go ahead. I'll check on her wound and bring her over."
Cecily protested, "What?"
"Alright, take her to her room quickly," Vivienne said anxiously.
Cecily wriggled in Darian's arms. "You really don't need to check my wound."
"Be good."
Cecily felt Darian carrying her upstairs. She covered his eyes with her hand. "I'm not Rowan or Griffin. Stop telling me to be good. Do you think I'm a child?"
"You're even naughtier than them. Take your hand away."
Cecily felt they were overreacting.
"If you don't let go, don't blame me for kissing you in front of your mother."
Darian knew how thin-skinned Cecily was. She was already uncomfortable with him holding her, let alone kissing her.
Cecily felt his head lowering towards her face.
She quickly released her hand, her heart racing wildly. "You're shameless."
Darian smiled, his lips curving. "First time noticing?"
He was truly shameless.
Cecily gave up struggling.
Well, she'd just follow this shameless man's lead.
