Chapter 477 Do Everything Possible to Protect Her
"Not yet. Josep was ready for this. We don't know where he hid Mrs. Fitzgerald. If we make a scene, it could put her in danger."
Darian's face darkened. "Stop looking for now."
"Boss?"
"As long as I don't act against him, he won't hurt my mother."
Darian knew Josep had kidnapped Sandra to threaten him. Making a big fuss would only make Josep suspicious, which wouldn't help.
"What about Cecily fainting at Fitzgerald Manor?"
"The hospital said it was low blood sugar, nothing serious. Evander happened to be nearby and took her to the hospital."
"Quite a coincidence."
"Probably. Evander's never been interested in the Lockwood family business, so I don't think this has anything to do with him."
Darian looked at the door. "Keep an eye on the Lockwood family. They're close to Josep."
"Boss, Miss Watson stayed in Owen's room for a bit. Should we ask her about it?"
"Ask around discreetly. Don't drag her into this."
"Got it."
Larkin understood Darian's strategy.
Amnesia could confuse Josep and lower his guard. Forgetting Cecily would make her a stranger to Darian, making her useless as a threat. Josep wouldn't target her.
If Darian were alone, he could openly fight Josep. But with his mother Sandra in Josep's hands, and a wife and kids to protect, he had to be careful.
"Boss, wait."
Just as Darian was about to hang up, Larkin said, "Miss Watson just messaged me. Owen told her Josep killed Patrick. He wanted her to keep it secret and transferred 30% of Fitzgerald Group's shares to her. But it was just an agreement, no third party, no will, no notarization, and the transfer wasn't completed. The shares are still in Owen's name. She's worried the agreement won't hold up."
Darian clenched his fists, eyes cold with fury.
Cecily's suspicion was right. Patrick's death was Josep's doing.
"Boss?" Larkin could feel the tension through the phone. "What should we do now?"
The agreement wasn't official. Without Owen to confirm it, neither Josep nor the company's shareholders would recognize it.
Cecily and Darian were divorced, so Cecily wasn't part of the Fitzgerald family. No one would believe Owen would transfer all his shares to an outsider. They'd likely accuse Cecily of fraud or coercion, making the private transfer agreement invalid.
That was Cecily's main worry. She couldn't transfer the shares to Darian's name. So, the shares would be considered Owen's estate, and without a will, they'd go to Josep by law.
Josep had planned for this, which is why he had acted so boldly. He hadn't expected Owen to give the shares to Cecily, nor did Owen expect to die before completing the transfer or making a will.
Cecily was in a tough spot.
"Contact Paul and Kevin to meet with Cecily. Tell them I sent you."
"Boss, are you saying...?"
"This will come up at the board meeting. I need them to vouch for Cecily."
Cecily couldn't prove the transfer agreement's authenticity, and Josep couldn't prove she had coerced Owen. So, the agreement couldn't be invalidated. If Cecily and Darian couldn't get the shares, neither could Josep.
Larkin nodded. "Got it. I'll relay your message."
"Paul and Kevin have been with Owen for years. They're trustworthy. I can't be involved directly, so it's up to them."
"I'll handle it. One more thing, Sawyer was with Owen the whole time. Should we ask him about it?"
"No." Darian's eyes darkened. "Has Sawyer called to inform us about anything since this happened?"
Larkin understood what Darian was thinking. "He hasn't."
"So, do you think he'd tell us the truth?" Darian's face was cold.
"Sawyer is a traitor. Owen trusted him!" Larkin was furious.
Darian wasn't surprised. There were too many traitors in their family. It was only a matter of time before they had to deal with it.
"Go handle it. Be careful."
Darian hung up, his eyes cold.
Cecily was discharged from the hospital. Before leaving, she went to Darian's ward but was stopped by guards. She knew they were Josep's men and left, not wanting to waste time.
Josep returned to the Fitzgerald family and found Sawyer. "How did you know Owen gave all the shares to Cecily?"
Sawyer took Josep to Owen's room. "Owen had a share transfer agreement in the safe, but it's gone. Cecily was the only one who came here."
Josep squinted and slammed his fist on the table. "So, Dad planned to give everything to Darian!"
"But don't worry. Owen might have signed the agreement, but the shares haven't been transferred. We just need a good excuse to void the agreement."
