Chapter 422 Don't Understand Gratitude? Let Me Teach You

Bryan stood off to the side, his gaze turning icy as he looked at Cecily.

Jennifer, caught off guard by Cecily's words, showed no guilt. Instead, she pointed at Cecily and yelled, "Fine, my daughter is lying in the emergency room, life or death unknown, because she saved your son. And now you're accusing us? Cecily, do you have any conscience at all?"

"Whether it's slander or not, you know the truth. I'm grateful Freya saved my child. As a reward, whatever you want, as long as I can do it, I will. But you can't deny you hired someone to assassinate me."

Cecily knew Freya had her own reasons for saving Rowan. Otherwise, she wouldn't have been so kind.

"Freya saved your son, and you still want to accuse and threaten us?"

Jennifer clung to Cecily's arm, saying, "Cecily, you better make yourself clear. We can't let you slander us like this."

Jennifer pointed at the operating room. "Freya is still in there, and you say these things. Can your conscience live with that?

Make yourself clear, who hired someone to assassinate you? If we had known you were like this, Freya shouldn't have saved your son."

Jennifer's loud accusations were filled with regret. She shouldn't have let Freya save the child. Now it had backfired, and Freya's life was at risk.

Cecily lowered her eyes, silently looking at the hand gripping her arm.

Jennifer's grip was strong, causing her pain.

But Cecily said nothing, raising her hand to forcefully remove the grip.

"Mom, let's go."

however, Jennifer still clung on, unwilling to release Cecily. Her overwhelming remorse and sadness sought an outlet through Cecily.

"Cecily, you can't leave. My daughter is still in critical condition. If you have any conscience, you should pray she's okay. She ended up like this to save your son. I want you to remember forever that you owe Freya a life. Do you hear me?"

Vivienne couldn't stand it anymore and slapped Jennifer's hand away from Cecily.

"Jennifer, if you hadn't tried to harm Cecily first, would any of this have happened? If you weren't afraid the child would get hurt and things would escalate, would you have been so kind to save the child? My words may be harsh, but isn't everything now your own doing?"

Freya and Jennifer's little schemes were all seen through by Cecily and Vivienne.

Jennifer, hit by the truth, looked heartbroken and continued to argue, "Do you have any evidence for what you're saying? Without evidence, how can you slander us?"

Cecily lightly tugged at her lips, her tone calm. "There will be evidence. Whatever bad things you've done, we'll settle them slowly when the time comes."

"Cecily!"

The surrounding air instantly froze.

Cecily's face suddenly took a heavy slap. Her knee was already injured, and now she staggered, losing balance and hitting the wall.

Supporting herself against the wall, she managed to control her body and not fall.

A clear, numbing pain spread across her right cheek, gradually revealing a five-finger mark on her fair face.

Cecily clenched her fist, licking the inside of her cheek as a metallic taste spread in her mouth.

That slap really hurt.

She straightened up, her gaze moving to the person who had slapped her.

It was Bryan!

"Bryan, are you crazy?"

Vivienne, usually calm, couldn't maintain her composure and forcefully pushed Bryan away.

Bryan's face was filled with gloom, his eyes showing disgust, hatred, and anger. That slap had all his strength behind it.

"Freya was shot in the chest. The doctor said it was just a hair away from hitting her heart. She ended up like this because she saved your son. She's still in the operating room, her life hanging by a thread. You have no gratitude, and instead, you're making a scene here, even talking about settling scores. You don't understand gratitude, so let me teach you!"

Cecily's throat tightened, something bitter rising up.

'Making a scene? Not understanding gratitude? So he didn't hear a word I said, only listened to Jennifer. How laughable,' she thought.

Tears welled up, but she forced them back. Wiping away a trace of blood from her mouth, she slowly tugged at her lips, staring motionlessly at Bryan.

Bryan looked at Cecily's faint smile. First, it was cold, then sarcastic, and finally filled with extreme pain. He couldn't understand the emotions in her eyes.

Vivienne was furious. "Bryan, who do you think you are?"

A white figure flashed in front of them, and before anyone could react, a fist landed directly on Bryan's face.

Bryan fell backward, and then his collar was grabbed.

"Wade!" Bryan gritted his teeth.

"You said Cecily is my daughter, right? Then let me tell you today, she is my daughter. Bryan, what right do you have to teach my daughter?" With that, Wade swung his fist again, hitting Bryan's face.

Bryan staggered and fell to the ground.

Vivienne watched the scene, her voice catching, a look of surprise crossing her face.

Someone called security, and a few guards came over, stopping Wade from hitting Bryan again. "What's going on here? Please, calm down."

Wade's anger was hard to quell. Only when several people held him back did he lower his fist.

"Are you okay?" he asked Cecily.

Cecily shook her head. The first time she met Wade, she thought he was gentle and elegant, unaffected by anything. Now, seeing him so furious and violent, she almost didn't recognize him.

Vivienne glanced at Bryan, then looked worriedly at Wade. "We're fine, but you shouldn't have said that."

"It was without your permission."

"No, you have a wife and kids, and you work here. If people hear and spread it, it won't be good for you."

Wade seemed unconcerned, smiling calmly.

Bryan had already stood up, looking at the three of them standing together, like a family. Anger flared in his eyes.

Jennifer, stunned by the scene, now saw more and more people gathering around. She sat down on the ground.

"My daughter is still in the emergency room, her fate uncertain. Yet, instead of gratitude, you choose to slander and even strike us. This is unjust"

Jennifer's loud voice and crying attracted passersby, who couldn't help but stop.

"Please, everyone, bear witness. My daughter risked her life to save this person's son. Now, not only are they ungrateful, but they're also saying we deserve this and even hitting people."

Those who thrive on drama often distort reality. As Jennifer spoke, onlookers cast disdainful glances at Cecily and Vivienne.

"Her daughter almost lost her life saving her son, and they can still say such things."

"How can there be such people? This mother is so pitiful. Her daughter is in critical condition, and she's still being bullied."

Jennifer cried, her face full of tears, looking pitiful and helpless. Many around her were filming with their phones, their words becoming more and more indignant.

Bryan wiped a trace of blood from the corner of his mouth and helped Jennifer up.

Whether Jennifer did it on purpose or her legs were really weak, she fell into Bryan's arms, crying into his chest.

They looked just like a couple.

Vivienne watched coldly as Bryan held Jennifer, a trace of sarcasm flashing in her heart.

"If Freya dies, how can I go on living?"
