Chapter 643 Dead, All Dead
Tears streamed down her hollow, helpless eyes, soaking her face without her even realizing it. She slowly sank to her knees.
Aurelie hung her head, her fingers digging into the sharp stones on the ground, her voice breaking as she cried out, "Nathaniel!"
She kept calling his name, her eyes filled with nothing but despair.
There were so many things she hadn't told him. She wanted to tell him she never blamed him. She hadn't seen him because she couldn't accept that she'd mistaken someone else for him for eleven years.
What was she supposed to do now?
"Nathaniel, come back! I don't blame you for hiding it from me. Just come back, and I won't make a fuss anymore. I won't leave, just come back, Nathaniel!" Tears blurred her vision, and her cries echoed over the vast sea, but the only response was silence.
A car pulled up behind her, and Cecily hurried out, "Aurelie?"
The incident happened in the middle of the night. Cecily couldn't reach Aurelie by phone this morning and knew something was wrong, so she came with Darian to find her.
When they arrived, they saw Aurelie kneeling alone on the ground, calling out to a Nathaniel who was already gone.
Cecily and Darian exchanged a glance, both realizing something serious had happened.
"Cecily!" Aurelie stood up, looking disheveled.
Cecily quickly reached out to support her.
"Cecily, Nathaniel fell! He sank into the water with the car. What do we do?" Aurelie's face was covered in tears, and she was trembling with anxiety.
Cecily's face was solemn. She couldn't find any words of comfort. The situation was worse than she had imagined. It seemed like some time had passed since Nathaniel and the car had sunk into the water. He hadn't surfaced yet, and the outcome seemed grim.
"Larkin, get people down there to search, and send some to get a boat, quickly," Darian instructed calmly.
"Yes," Larkin said, jogging away.
There was nothing they could do but search for him.
Four hours flew by. Darian had sent professional divers down to search, and the car was quickly retrieved.
Aurelie looked at the car and the bodies covered with white cloth that were brought up. Ignoring Cecily's attempts to stop her, she stumbled forward, fell after two steps, then got up and walked towards the bodies.
At that moment, she couldn't hear anything, and her vision seemed isolated. Looking at the bodies being retrieved, she had never felt such fear.
Cecily quickly followed, her eyes full of concern for Aurelie. She glanced at Darian, who shook his head gravely.
Cecily's breath caught, her eyes wide with disbelief. Was Nathaniel really gone?
Aurelie knelt down, staring at the white cloth, her face pained and trembling. She took a deep breath, gathering her courage, and slowly lifted a corner of the cloth.
Her eyes were numb, praying desperately in her heart. As the cloth lifted, it revealed a stranger's face. It was the driver.
Aurelie closed her eyes tightly, took another deep breath, and crawled on her knees to the next white cloth, pulling it open forcefully. Another pale, unfamiliar face.
Looking at the last body, Aurelie's fear grew. She didn't know how many people were in Nathaniel's car, but now three bodies had been retrieved, and her anxiety was overwhelming.
The driver and the other person had no visible injuries, but they were still both dead.
Not to mention Nathaniel was seriously injured.
She didn't dare to think further. Extreme anxiety seemed to swallow all of Aurelie's thoughts.
She got up, squatted down again, and with trembling hands, grabbed the corner of the last white cloth. She tried hard to control herself, constantly persuading herself, trying to numb herself, and pulled the cloth open forcefully.
When she saw the pale face under the cloth, Aurelie closed her eyes tightly.
The person under the cloth was Stanley! Not Nathaniel.
At that moment, she didn't know whether to cry or laugh. Nathaniel wasn't among the three dead.
But there were probably four people in the car, and three of them were confirmed dead.
So even if Nathaniel's body wasn't found, it wasn't good news.
Aurelie covered her face, tears streaming through her fingers. Out of four, three were dead. They had searched for four hours and still hadn't found Nathaniel. This was a desperate message.
Aurelie closed her eyes, the overwhelming despair almost crushing her.
Stanley's death was quickly reported. After sending Marshall home, Isadora and Terry hurriedly arrived, only to see Stanley's cold body lying there.
Terry's mind went blank almost instantly. He staggered forward, fell beside Stanley, his eyes filled with tears.
Stanley was dead.
He couldn't believe it. He reached out with trembling hands to touch Stanley's already cold face, his eyes wide open in disbelief that Stanley was dead.
Stanley was his most beloved son and his only heir, but now he lay there quietly, never to wake up again.
