Chapter 342 Stand Up for My Daughter
Vivienne smiled with relief, seeming their relationship was quite good now.
"Let's go." The banquet was getting impatient, and Vivienne needed to head over.
At this moment, Eliza was effortlessly handling all the guests.
She had previously lived with the Hall family, a prominent family, and later joined the Fitzgerald family, where attending banquets was inevitable. So, she handled such events with ease and grace.
"Ms. Bennett is getting more and more beautiful."
"Yes, Ms. Bennett's elegance is truly unmatched."
Everyone knew that the eldest daughter of the Bennett family had been confirmed, and it was this very lady before them. Naturally, they all rushed to flatter her.
"I always said that the previous incident was just a farce. You are the one and only Ms. Bennett. That impostor could never take your place."
"I agree. We always believed you were the real Ms. Bennett."
"Yeah. What about that impostor? She won't be causing trouble again today, will she?"
"If she dares to cause trouble again, she'll just be asking for it."
Eliza stood among these ladies, calmly accepting their adulation, while inwardly sneering. On the surface, she wore a grateful smile.
"Thank you all for believing in me. The previous incident hurt me greatly, but fortunately, that impostor didn't succeed."
With Eliza's words, the people around her became even more enthusiastic.
"An impostor is just an impostor. How could she ever become the real Ms. Bennett? It's a shame you, the true eldest daughter, had to suffer so much."
"Ms. Bennett, what happened to that impostor? You must not show mercy to such a person pretending to be you. She must pay the price."
"Yes, you should sue her and have her imprisoned."
Eliza sighed and shook her head, saying, "Forget it. Let bygones be bygones. I don't want to stoop to her level. As long as she doesn't continue to cause unreasonable trouble, I won't make things difficult for her."
"Ms. Bennett, you are too kind-hearted."
"Indeed, only Ms. Bennett would be so kind. Anyone else would ensure she faced severe consequences."
Eliza pursed her lips and noticed Hunter and Keaen standing not far away. Her eyes flashed, and she lost interest in continuing the conversation. She excused herself, "Alright, enough about that. I have some matters to attend to. Excuse me."
"You go ahead."
As Eliza walked away, the women continued their hushed discussions, "I heard Vivienne is back? This banquet is a welcome party for her."
"Really? Vivienne has disappeared several times over the years. I thought she was dead."
"Vivienne is quite strange. There were rumors that she had severe depression. Who knows what's going on?"
"The Bennett family keeps their affairs tight-lipped. Who can tell?"
Eliza approached Hunter and Keaen, "Uncles, you're here too. You don't plan to cause trouble again, do you?"
Hunter glanced at Eliza's scarred arm. He had known she was Eliza all along, after her plastic surgery. He initially wanted to use her to counterbalance the real Cecily, but then Vivienne returned.
Hunter narrowed his eyes. "Didn't my sister recognize you?"
Eliza's heart skipped a beat at his words. "Uncle, what do you mean by that?"
Hunter sneered and said, "Stop pretending. Where did you hide the real Cecily? Is she dead?"
Hearing this, Eliza felt a jolt of panic. Hunter seemed certain she wasn't Cecily, rather than trying to trick her into revealing the truth. How did he know?
But she wouldn't admit it at this moment. After being tricked once by Cecily, she was wary of any recording devices.
"What are you talking about, Uncle? I don't understand. Mother said I'm her biological daughter. I don't know what you're still doubting."
Hunter sneered internally.
He knew his sister well. With Vivienne's intelligence, she would never fail to recognize her daughter.
She must be planning something big.
Only Eliza still believed she had everything under control, feeling smug about it.
"Then let me remind you, be careful."
Eliza gritted her teeth, not understanding what Hunter meant by that.
Hunter, unwilling to say more, turned and left with Keaen.
Keaen raised an eyebrow and asked, "Bro, is she really not the real Cecily?"
"No, she's not."
"Then this banquet is going to be..." Keaen chuckled, "quite a show, isn't it?"
Hunter sneered, "Exactly."
Eliza stood there, still pondering Hunter's words, trembling slightly.
Damn it, still no news from Matthias, making her very uneasy.
"Miss, Mrs. Bennett has arrived at the entrance."
Eliza took a deep breath, suppressing her emotions, and looked calmly at the servant, "Alright."
Eliza straightened her back and walked out to greet Vivienne.
As Vivienne got out of the car, Eliza walked up to her with a cheerful demeanor.
Eliza happily stepped forward, taking her arm, "Mom, you're here. I've been waiting for you. I thought you weren't coming."
Vivienne raised an indifferent eyebrow and smiled, "Such an important banquet, of course, I had to come. I was just delayed by something on the way."
"Mom, let's go inside quickly. Everyone's here and waiting for you."
Vivienne glanced at the arm Eliza was holding but said nothing and walked straight in.
Vivienne wore a simple, solid-colored dress today, understated yet dignified and appropriate for the banquet.
In contrast, Eliza wore a flashy silver-gray strapless dress, with layers of starry tulle and light feathers cascading down, making her look like a princess, stunningly beautiful.
She had meticulously styled her makeup and hair, and with her flawless face, she easily outshone all the other wealthy ladies present.
Tonight, Eliza was undoubtedly beautiful.
Having suffered a setback with her dress last time, she was determined to regain her dignity.
Eliza walked in with Vivienne, and all eyes were on them, accompanied by a chorus of praise. Eliza's face bloomed with a perfect smile.
She had finally reached this day.
Eliza affectionately leaned closer to Vivienne, appearing to be engaged in a warm conversation. But those who paid close attention would notice that Vivienne's face showed no hint of a smile.
"They truly look alike as mother and daughter."
"And their elegance is unmatched."
Eliza took the microphone handed by a server and offered it to Vivienne, "Mom, here you go."
Vivienne looked at her, took the microphone, and Eliza stepped aside. The room quieted down, all eyes on Vivienne.
Vivienne, wearing light makeup, exuded coldness and indifference. She stood still, looking at the guests, then at Eliza standing below the stage, and began to speak.
"I've been away from Detroit for some time, and I'm very pleased to see everyone here tonight. During my absence from the Bennett family, I've heard of many unpleasant events, which have caused my daughter Cecily a lot of grievances. Now that I'm back, the first thing I must do is seek justice for my daughter."
Eliza stood below the stage, her heart pounding with excitement. From Vivienne's words, it seemed she was going to stand up for her tonight. If that were the case, it would be fantastic. No one would dare question her identity again.
"Ms. Vivienne Bennett is going to punish those who hurt Ms. Bennett, isn't she?"
"Of course, she is. That's her daughter. Cecily Bennett suffered so much because of that impostor at the last banquet. Ms. Vivienne Bennett surely won't let that impostor off the hook."
"Is that impostor here today? If she is, it's going to be quite a show."
At this moment, the banquet hall doors quietly opened, and Darian entered with Cecily in his arms. He set her down, holding her hand, "We're here."
"Okay." Cecily had heard Vivienne's voice from the corridor.
Everyone's attention was on Vivienne on the stage, and no one noticed the newcomers at the back. But Vivienne immediately saw her daughter, her cold expression softening a bit.
"Cecily, do you want to come up?" Vivienne asked gently.
Hearing Vivienne's voice, Cecily smiled softly.
Eliza, already beaming, lifted her skirt and started walking towards the stage.
Vivienne glanced at Eliza and said coldly, "I wasn't talking to you."
