Chapter 344 The Truth
"Cecily, you..." Eliza couldn't help but murmur Cecily's name.
Her voice was neither loud nor soft, but it fell into a moment of silence just right, and many people heard her exclamation.
Some slower individuals hadn't recognized Cecily because her eyes were bandaged, but with Eliza's shout, everyone realized it was Cecily.
Darian held Cecily's hand, leading her forward slowly. Wherever they passed, the crowd parted to make way.
"Imposter? No, she is the real Cecily, the real Cecily Bennett."
"But what happened to her eyes? Are they injured?"
"Looks like it. Didn't you hear Ms. Vivienne Bennett just say that her daughter Cecily was kidnapped? She must have been rescued, but her eyes got hurt."
Darian protected Cecily as she walked step by step onto the stage. Even though she couldn't see, she walked with calm and composure.
Eliza staggered a few steps, shaking her head continuously, "This can't be happening, you..."
Cecily turned her head in Eliza's direction, "Are you surprised that I made it out alive?"
Eliza's face turned pale, "Impossible. That place was so hidden. How did you find it so quickly? Impossible."
She couldn't accept any of this, her pupils trembling in their sockets.
After a brief moment of composure, she sharply looked at Vivienne. "Did you tamper with my phone? When I fainted, it was you, wasn't it? No, I didn't faint. You drugged me!"
Eliza suddenly understood everything.
She had wondered how she could have fainted from exhaustion, but she was distracted by other things at the time and didn't think much of it.
After waking up from fainting, she could no longer contact Matthias. By then, Matthias was either captured or dead, which is why she couldn't reach him.
So Vivienne had recognized her from the start, but since she knew Cecily was trapped, she didn't expose her and secretly investigated Cecily's whereabouts through her.
They had been waiting for this day; it was all a setup.
Even her agreeing to host this banquet was part of their plan from the beginning.
Thinking of these details, Eliza felt utterly ridiculous, "You all conspired to deceive me! Vivienne, as the head of the family, you resorted to such lowly tactics as drugging me. It's laughable."
Vivienne took a step closer to Eliza.
"Drug you?"
Eliza retreated step by step.
"You kidnapped my daughter, poisoned me, and wanted me dead. Do you think only you can use such dirty tricks against others, but not be on the receiving end?"
"You talk about deception, but weren't you the one who had surgery to impersonate my daughter and deceive everyone first?"
Vivienne was furious at the thought of Cecily's eyes.
Eliza's legs went weak, and she fell to the ground, trembling violently, "It shouldn't be like this. I planned everything so well. Why is it like this? It's not fair."
Cecily listened to this and lightly pressed her lips together, "Not fair? What is fair? You took my identity, left me to die in the mountains, and poisoned my mother. Is that fair? To you, this might be the fairest thing."
"Isn't it? I put in so much effort; I deserve all of this."
"You deserve it?" Cecily found it amusing.
She truly was Raphael's child, able to justify stealing from others so righteously.
They believed that once they set their sights on something, even stealing or robbing it was justifiable. They could boldly say: This was meant to be mine.
I really wonder if this mentality is hereditary.
Raphael was like this, Elysia was like this, and Eliza is like this too.
Cecily shook her head with a cold smile. "I warned you before, the fake can never become real. What doesn't belong to you will never be yours."
At this moment, the guests who were previously unaware of the truth finally understood everything.
"So Mrs. Fitzgerald was right from the beginning. She really is the adopted daughter of the Fitzgerald family, Eliza, who had plastic surgery to impersonate someone else, like a crow trying to become a phoenix."
"We were so foolish to be deceived by this plastic surgery freak for so long. She even claimed online that she was Cecily Bennett. Does wearing someone else's face make her skin thicker?"
"This is disgusting. What kind of twisted mind does it take to do something like this?"
"The Bennett family is really unlucky to be targeted by someone like her."
Eliza climbed up from the ground, her hateful gaze sweeping over everyone. "What do you understand? Why did I do this? Because this woman killed my adoptive father, Patrick! I wanted revenge, so I had surgery to look like her daughter, to infiltrate the Bennett family, get close to her, and take revenge. What's wrong with that? And you, Darian!"
Eliza, with bloodshot eyes, glared at Darian beside Cecily. She raised her hand and pointed at Vivienne, "She caused your father's death."
Then she pointed at Cecily, saying, "She is the daughter of the person who killed your father. Tell me, how can you continue to love her, continue to help them against me? We are the real family. You should be helping me. Everything I did was to avenge our father."
Eliza stared at Darian with a look of sorrow and helplessness, as if she had been betrayed by her own family.
Darian's eyes were as cold as ice, capable of freezing everything.
He stared at Eliza, his voice deep and powerful.
He looked at Eliza, his voice deep and powerful. "Who asked you to seek revenge? Do you genuinely want to avenge him, or do you covet the Bennett family's wealth and want to claim it for yourself?"
Darian directly exposed her true intentions.
Eliza looked at Darian, and when their eyes met, she felt as if he could see into the depths of her soul.
Eliza's eyes flickered with confusion.
"Whether you believe it or not, I truly wanted to avenge my father," she still tried to defend herself.
Darian glanced at her indifferently, his tone cold as he asked, "Even if what you say is true, who asked you to do it? The Fitzgerald family would seek revenge openly and honorably, not with these petty tricks."
His words were like a heavy hammer, striking her heart, leaving Eliza speechless.
"Eliza, you say you wanted to avenge Patrick, so you did all this, right?" Vivienne suddenly spoke.
Eliza's gaze shifted to Vivienne, filled with deep resentment, "Yes."
"Do you have the right to say that? You were in the car at the time. You should know better than anyone else about his death."
Vivienne couldn't deny that she had contacted Patrick at the time, which led him to change his route to the airport, resulting in the car accident on the way.
It was all her fault. She shouldn't have contacted him. If she hadn't, he wouldn't have had the accident.
This was her guilt towards the Fitzgerald family, towards Patrick.
She later sent people to investigate the incident and found a dashcam recording from a vehicle on the same route. Patrick could have survived.
