Chapter 624 Kensington Group Shareholders' Meeting
Cecily asked, "Does he tail your grandma when she heads out to handle stuff?"
Rowan shook his head, "Nah, when Grandma's out and about, he can't track her down."
Cecily, lost in thought, gave Griffin and Rowan a pat on the head, "Got it."
Later that afternoon, Percy's sentence dropped: life in the slammer.
In the news clip, Percy, who ditched his suit and lost all his swagger in just two weeks, looked way older with his gray hair and tired face.
A swarm of reporters mobbed Karen, her hair a mess, clothes all wrinkled. She crumpled to the ground, bawling her eyes out, totally overwhelmed.
The reporters were ruthless, not giving a damn about Karen's feelings, throwing sharp and nasty questions her way.
Karen was in no shape to deal with those vultures.
Then, out of nowhere, someone rushed over.
"Is that Evander?" someone yelled.
"Yeah, it's Evander!" the reporters echoed.
Evander stepped up. Unlike his usual decked-out look, he rocked a sharp suit this time as he stood by Karen.
Seeing Evander, who'd been MIA for half a month, Karen's tears paused for a sec.
"Mom," Evander called out.
Hearing his voice, Karen realized it was really him, and the waterworks started again.
For the Lockwood Family, the past two weeks had been pure hell. Karen had cried herself dry.
Seeing Evander, who'd been AWOL, the reporters got even more hyped. He was already a big deal, and now with his dad Percy locked up and the Lockwood Family on the brink, everyone was waiting for him to crash and burn.
The reporters shoved their mics in Evander's face, as he pulled Karen behind him, his tall frame shielding her.
The questions flew at him.
"Evander, what's your take on your dad's verdict and the Lockwood Family's situation?" one reporter asked.
"What's next for you? Staying in the entertainment biz?" another chimed in.
"You've been off the grid for half a month since this all went down. What have you been up to?" they pressed.
Evander stared at the reporters, stone-faced, and said, "My dad dug his own grave, but he doesn't speak for the whole Lockwood Group. The Lockwood Group's steady now, and it's not going under. The Lockwood Family ain't going down."
He turned to Karen, her face streaked with tears, and added, "I'm not leaving again. I'll face everything with the Lockwood Group."
Karen covered her face, sobbing. Hearing Evander's words, she finally felt a bit of relief.
Evander glanced up and saw Landon stepping out of the courthouse.
Landon's lips tightened as he looked over, and when their eyes met, a flicker of relief crossed his face.
Cecily watched the live stream and figured Evander had finally come to grips with everything over the past couple of weeks.
Percy got what was coming to him, but with Landon and Evander in the mix, the Lockwood Group wouldn't crumble, though it wouldn't be as rock-solid as before. Percy had dug his own grave.
That afternoon, Cecily took Griffin and Rowan to check in on Aurelie and see how she was holding up. The baby in her belly was doing just fine.
"So, how are you gonna break the news to Nathaniel about this kid? Your belly is starting to show, and soon you won't be able to hide it." The baby bump usually started to pop around four or five months of age, and Aurelie was already four months along. Tight clothes would give it away.
She'd been rocking loose outfits to keep her belly under wraps, so Nathaniel hadn't caught on yet.
But it wouldn't be long before she couldn't hide it anymore.
When Cecily asked, Aurelie went quiet.
She'd thought about it a million times but never found a good answer.
She'd lied to Nathaniel about losing the baby to get away from him.
Now that he was hitched to Lillian, what reason did she have to spill the beans about the kid?
She didn't plan on telling him.
But could she really keep it under wraps?
Terry had done some digging and knew she was still carrying Nathaniel's baby.
"I wanna keep it a secret, but I know I can't for long. Terry knows I'm still pregnant with Nathaniel's kid." Aurelie bit her lip and looked down at her belly.
"Terry? Nathaniel's dad?" Cecily was shocked.
"Yeah, when he stopped me at the airport, he'd already done his homework. He found out about the baby from the hospital, so even if Nathaniel doesn't know now, it won't stay a secret." Aurelie replied.
"Nathaniel's beefing with the Kensington Family, and now they know about your kid with him. You gotta be extra careful." Cecily had a rough idea of the bad blood between Nathaniel and the Kensingtons. A showdown was bound to happen, and now Aurelie and the baby were Nathaniel's weak spots. If things went south, they'd be easy targets.
Aurelie had faced a ton of danger since getting pregnant, and it hadn't been easy keeping the baby safe. Cecily knew they had to be even more cautious now.
Two days later, the Kensington Group shareholders' meeting.
In the big conference room, Terry sat at the head of the table.
It had been almost ten days since anyone had seen Nathaniel, and as a dad, Terry didn't seem to give a damn, showing just how cold he was towards his son.
Sitting to Terry's left was Stanley, leaning back and tapping his long fingers on the table.
Most of the shareholders were there.
With five minutes left before the meeting officially kicked off, Terry was about to announce that Stanley was the sole heir of the Kensington Group. From now on, no one would be able to challenge him for control of the company.
