Chapter 466 My Heart Only Loves Myself
Josep turned to Eliza. Her face had lost its usual silly look. She stood up and asked, "What do you want?"
Josep smirked. "So, you were faking it all along."
Eliza shrugged. "I had to, to survive."
She had a way to counteract the poison she created. Owen had used it on her, so she played along, acting crazy to stay alive.
Josep's smile widened. "You're very patient."
For a year, Eliza had been stuck in this room, pretending to be crazy to lower Owen's guard.
"They made me like this, so I have to live. I can only make them pay by living," Eliza said, her voice full of hatred.
Josep liked this version of Eliza. Hatred was a strong motivator.
"You said you wanted to get rid of Darian and Cecily. How?"
Eliza had been waiting for this chance. Today, she finally got it.
Josep closed the door and coldly said, "Do what you do best."
"Poison Cecily?"
"No," Josep shook his head. "I want to drive Darian crazy or make him a drooling idiot like you were."
Killing Darian was too risky. But making him an idiot? He already had a head injury, so it would seem plausible.
Eliza sneered, "Why not just kill him?"
"What's the difference between making him an idiot and killing him?" Josep asked.
"And Cecily? I hate her the most. She schemed against me. I want her dead," Eliza said.
"Once I control the Fitzgerald family, you can kill either of them," Josep said.
Josep's words were tempting, and Eliza believed him. She had no other choice.
"Fine, I'll help you."
Josep looked around. "You're blind and have no drugs. How can you help?"
Eliza chuckled. "I may not have drugs on me, but I know where to get them."
She gave Josep an address. "Go here, enter the master bedroom, and push aside the cabinet in the far corner. There's a secret room. Bring me all the drugs inside, and I'll find what you need."
"Dad already searched there, but I didn't expect you to have a backup plan." Josep was impressed.
Eliza slowly sat back on the bed. "Go quickly. I can't wait to see Darian and Cecily's downfall."
Josep sneered and walked to the door. Just as he was about to leave, he asked, "You used to shout about avenging Patrick. Was that real?"
"It was just an excuse. I learned early on that Cecily's identity was unusual. My goal was to take over the Bennett family. Patrick was just overly sympathetic and had connections with the Russell family, so he adopted me. I didn't need to risk my life for him."
"But he risked his life to save you in the car accident."
"Oh," Eliza shrugged. "So what? He adopted me, so he had to be responsible. It was his duty to risk his life for me."
Josep felt a bit sorry for Patrick. His kindness had saved a demon.
"You have no heart."
"Sure I do. It just loves only me," Eliza said with a sinister smile.
Eliza's eerie vibe made Josep feel uneasy. He didn't stay long and left to call his people to find the drugs as Eliza instructed.
At the Fitzgerald Group, Larkin knocked and entered Darian's office.
"Boss."
"Speak."
Larkin placed a document in front of Darian. "All of Josep's assets have been dealt with. The largest shareholder is Percy."
"Percy?" Darian squinted. The Fitzgeralds and Lockwoods didn't get along and rarely worked together. The Lockwoods used to be on par with the Fitzgeralds, but they had fallen behind.
Darian didn't expect Josep to be connected with Percy.
"From now on, keep the Lockwoods away from Cecily."
Larkin hesitated. "What about Evander?"
"Especially him."
Evander's feelings for Cecily were obvious. Did he think Darian was dead?
"Yes," Larkin said, sensing the personal nature of the order.
"Leave."
Larkin noticed Darian wasn't leaving work. "Boss, didn't you have dinner plans with Miss Watson?"
Mentioning it only frustrated Darian more. Larkin quickly regretted asking.
"I'm not hungry," Darian said coldly.
'Not hungry? Just admit you got stood up. No one would laugh.'
Larkin suppressed a laugh and left to prepare dinner for Darian.
Darian tried to work but couldn't focus. He capped his pen, grabbed his coat, and walked out.
Larkin was just bringing dinner to Darian when he saw him leaving.
"Boss, are you leaving?"
"Yes."
"What about dinner?"
"You eat it." Darian put on his suit jacket, straightening it meticulously.
He looked at Larkin and raised an eyebrow. "How do I look?"
"Huh?" Larkin was surprised. Darian usually didn't care about his appearance.
Larkin looked him over carefully. Darian usually wore black or gray suits, but this one looked sharp.
Larkin gave a thumbs up. "You look handsome!"
"Yes, Cecily picked it out."
Larkin was silent. A man in love saw the world through rose-tinted glasses.
