Chapter 312 She Stopped Breathing

"Darian! Stop it!" Desmond was shocked to see the situation inside and quickly shouted to stop.

Upon seeing the Bennett family's arrival, Eliza let out a sigh of relief. She abruptly halted her words, her eyes rolling back as she appeared weak, as if on the verge of fainting.

In truth, her face had turned purple, almost as if she were being strangled to death by Darian.

"Quick, save her." Desmond yelled, prompting the Bennett family members to swiftly move forward, with Larkin stepping in to intervene.

Witnessing the escalating conflict, Desmond couldn't tolerate it any longer and angrily demanded, "Darian, release her at once, or we will have no choice but to take action against you.”

Darian looked at the woman in front of him, his eyes darkening.

Just when success was within reach, the Bennett's Family barged in, and she remained silent.

Then he would see, for her, what was more important, her life or this identity.

"Speak!"

"I don't know; I really don't know." She struggled to speak, her voice hoarse and unclear.

"Boss, if you keep choking her, she will really die." Larkin couldn't help but step forward to warn.

If the Bennett family witnessed her being killed, they wouldn't let it go, and Darian would be in serious trouble.

Darian's dark eyes were devoid of any emotion, and when he saw that she had lost consciousness, he finally let her go.

Eliza's body fell heavily to the ground.

Desmond quickly called out to the doctor he had brought. "Quick, go and save her."

The doctor hurried forward with a medical kit, this time no one stopped them.

Darian's handsome face wore a cold and fierce expression, causing the approaching doctor to shiver involuntarily. Darian's gaze pierced Desmond's face like a sharp sword.

Desmond looked extremely grim at the moment, his gaze fixed on Eliza, asking the doctor, "How is she?"

The doctor checked Eliza and exclaimed, "Desmond, the lady has stopped breathing."

Desmond's face instantly darkened.

The doctor immediately began emergency treatment on Eliza.

"Darian!" Desmond angrily exclaimed, "What has she done for you to resort to such violence?"

Desmond had been doubtful of Eliza's words the previous night, but now he had no choice but to believe her.

Everything was laid out before him. Darian, Cecily's husband, had nearly taken her life right in front of him today.

If that could happen, what else was possible? What else couldn't he believe?

Desmond grew angrier by the moment, scolding Darian, "Do you believe that by killing her, your wife can automatically become the lady of the Bennett family? Let me make it clear: don't even think about it. If she dies, I will immediately declare Miss Bennett deceased, and there will be no Ms. Bennett in existence. None of you should entertain the idea of claiming this identity again.”

Larkin knew that Desmond was misunderstanding the situation, and although he wanted to explain, he hesitated after seeing his boss's expression, unsure of how to clarify.

If Eliza really died now, nothing would make sense anymore.

After a long silence, Darian sneered, a cold glint in his eyes. "If you hadn't come, everything would have ended."

"What do you mean?" Desmond frowned, asking in a dark tone.

Darian didn't explain anything. Eliza hadn't said anything yet, and nothing could be proven no matter how much was said.

After implementing a series of emergency measures, Eliza regained consciousness. She drew in a deep breath, opened her eyes abruptly, and weakly lay on the ground, eagerly inhaling the fresh air.

"She's awake, sir," The doctor quickly informed Desmond.

Desmond walked toward Eliza in large strides, worriedly asking, "Miss, are you okay?"

Seeing Desmond there, Eliza knew she had survived this ordeal.

With tears in her eyes, she turned to Desmond and pleaded, "Desmond, please help me. Owen was about to kill me for that imposter, but you saved me. If I had died, their plan would have succeeded. I am my mother's only descendant, I can't die.”

The more she spoke, the more agitated she became, crying hoarsely, her beautiful face with tears in her eyes, evoking pity.

Desmond stood there, watching Eliza on the ground, feeling even more disgusted with Darian and his group.

Were they even human to treat a woman like this?

"Nonsense." Larkin couldn't bear it and retorted, “What have we accomplished by now? If our intention was truly to kill you, you would have been dead long ago. We wouldn't have delayed until they showed up.”

Darian had indeed been too heavy-handed today, but they had a doctor on standby, they wouldn't let Eliza die.

Eliza was feeling incredibly weak, tears flowing down her face. "If I hadn't fought back, I'd be dead by now. You didn't expect the Bennett family to come to my rescue, so it's natural that you wouldn't have hurried to kill me. But Desmond, you witnessed it yourself; if you had been just a second later, I would be dead.”

"I understand." Desmond furrowed his dark brows. "Don't say more; take her back."

As Eliza was about to be taken away, Larkin stepped forward to stop them, looking at Darian, waiting for Darian's order.

"Let her go," Darian said indifferently.

Only then did Larkin step aside.

The Bennett family escorted the weak Eliza away, and as Eliza looked back at Darian, her eyes were filled with hatred.

She was shocked to learn that Darian was aware of Vivienne's involvement in Patrick's death but still chose to support Cecily. Did he have no sense of morality?

Considering that the deceased individual was Owen's own father, even if he currently lacked evidence and wasn't entirely convinced, shouldn't he harbor doubts in his heart? How could he show such kindness to the daughter of his adversary?

Eliza was furious beyond measure.

She vowed that one day she would personally present the evidence to Darian, making him regret his actions.

Desmond snorted harshly, cautioning Darian, "Darian, fortunately, my lady is unscathed. If any harm had befallen her, the Bennett Family would seek retribution. I suggest you and Cecily not bother. Even if she were to perish today, your wife Cecily could never directly inherit the title of Ms. Bennett.”

"It has nothing to do with her." Darian's tone was icy, "What happened today has nothing to do with my wife? She is completely unaware of this matter. I brought that woman here today to settle some personal grievances."

"Do you think I'll believe that? These are just your one-sided words."

"According to you, if I really wanted her dead, she would have died a thousand times over without anyone knowing."

Darian didn't mind being misunderstood, but he couldn't let Cecily be misunderstood by the Bennett's Family. Cecily was completely unaware of this matter and was being wrongly accused.

“Oh, is that so? You're correct. She nearly perished by your hand last night without anyone knowing," Desmond said angrily.
Darian furrowed his brows. "Last night? What are you talking about?"

"The person who tried to kill her last night, was it also sent by you?" Clearly, Desmond now believed what Eliza had said last night.
