Chapter 461 Jennifer is Back
Evander's face darkened. He stopped listening, opened the car door, and got out. "You can go back on your own. I have something to do."
"Evander, where are you going?"
"None of your business."
"Be careful and don't wander around," Karen said through the open window.
"Got it."
Evander pulled his hat down and left.
"This is your fault. Our son rarely comes home, and you drove him away. You know he hates you meddling in his marriage."
"I'm doing it for his own good. We have such a big family business, does he want to stay in the entertainment industry forever? I'm meddling for you, for our family."
Karen stopped arguing.
"And you shouldn't stay home all day. Visit the Bennett family and get close to Vivienne. If Evander marries Cecily, it'll save us a lot of trouble."
Karen was reluctant.
She didn't want Evander to be with Cecily. He could have anyone, but he insisted on Cecily, who had been married and had two kids.
The real issue was Cecily's kids were from the Fitzgerald family, which made them enemies.
When Cecily left the hospital, she saw Evander hadn't left. "Why are you still here?"
"Didn't you say you wanted to stay with Darian?"
Cecily pursed her lips as the driver pulled up. "It's late. I'm heading back. As a public figure, you shouldn't wander around. Be careful of the paparazzi."
"I'm not afraid."
Cecily had nothing more to say. She reached for the car door, but Evander opened it first.
"I don't have a ride. Mind giving me a lift?"
Cecily frowned. "Where are your parents?"
"They went back."
"Take a cab."
"That's heartless. Cabs take too long and are inconvenient," he said, pulling his hat down.
Cecily looked around and sighed. "Get in."
When Darian came out, he saw Cecily and Evander getting into the car.
His eyes narrowed.
The car started and left.
There wasn't time to get his car from the lot. Cecily's car quickly disappeared into the traffic.
Darian saw a car stopping. He strode over, opened the door, and pulled the driver out.
The driver was bewildered and was about to speak when Darian glanced at Larkin, who was approaching, and said, "Give him five hundred thousand dollars for the car rental."
Before the driver could react, Darian had driven off.
"Come back! That's carjacking!"
Larkin stepped forward. "Sir, what's your account number? I'll transfer the rental fee."
A few minutes later, five hundred thousand dollars was transferred.
The driver, still in a daze, looked at the transfer, eyes wide. "I just met a rich guy."
His car had been worth a little over ten thousand dollars new, and he'd been driving it for years. It wasn't worth much now.
The driver grinned. "You guys can keep it. No need to return it."
Cecily had the driver take Evander home. When they arrived at Lockwood Manor, Evander turned to Cecily in the front seat. "It's late. I won't invite you in. Be careful on your way back."
"Okay."
Cecily planned to go straight home, but Rowan and Griffin said, "Let's not go home yet, Mommy. Let's go to Fitzgerald Manor."
Cecily was puzzled. "It's late. Why do you want to go to Fitzgerald Manor?"
"You'll know when we get there, Mommy."
Griffin's chubby face showed a mischievous smile.
Cecily thought that Rowan and Griffin were being mysterious.
At Fitzgerald Manor.
Josep and Olivia were fuming.
"Josep, think of something. I don't want to stay here forever."
Josep frowned. "It's your fault for being stupid and letting Cecily trick you. Otherwise, she wouldn't have found any evidence."
Olivia sat on the bed and pouted. "I didn't realize what she was asking. You didn't either, so don't blame me for that."
Josep's face was cold. "Behave yourself. Dad has people watching us. If we cause more trouble, we'll be kicked out."
Olivia didn't dare cause more trouble and just complained a bit.
The wind was strong late at night, rustling the leaves.
Olivia pulled up the blanket and looked out the window, feeling a chill.
"Olivia, give me back my life."
In the darkness, Olivia sat up and looked toward the door. "Who is it?"
Silence.
Olivia's face turned pale. She thought she heard Jennifer's voice.
"Josep, Josep." Olivia shook the sleeping Josep.
Josep stirred but ignored her.
Olivia clutched the blanket in panic. She wasn't sure if she was hearing things, but she thought she really had heard Jennifer's voice. She reached out, trembling, to grab her phone.
As soon as she turned it on, a blood-red face appeared on the screen.
Olivia screamed and threw the phone away.
Josep sat up, annoyed. "What are you doing in the middle of the night?"
"There's a ghost in the phone." Olivia clutched the blanket, covering her face, trembling all over.
Josep frowned and looked at Olivia's phone but saw nothing unusual. "Where's the ghost? You must have had a nightmare."
Olivia, still shaking, didn't dare stick her head out. "There really is a ghost. I just heard a sound at the door."
Josep, who had been woken up in the middle of the night by Olivia, was getting a headache. "What sound? Go back to sleep."
"I swear I heard it. It was Jennifer's voice. Really."
Josep's heart skipped a beat. "Are you crazy? Jennifer is already dead."
"I swear I heard it, right at the door."
He glanced toward the door but heard nothing.
Josep didn't believe in ghosts, so he got out of bed to check.
"Josep, don't go."
Olivia became even more panicked when she saw Josep walk out. She shrank back and looked around the large room, feeling as if eyes were watching her from all directions.
Then, a strange sound echoed through the room, and Olivia's body trembled. She looked toward the window and saw a white figure float by.
Olivia screamed desperately.
Josep had just walked out and closed the door when it suddenly opened again.
Footsteps approached, and Olivia felt something coming closer. Gathering her courage, she looked up and saw a sinister face peering through the window. The face was pale, covered in blood, with hollow eyes showing only the whites, and a mouth that seemed to be grinning eerily.
Olivia's heart pounded, her face turning deathly pale. She looked at the thing clinging to the window, her throat feeling as if she was being choked, unable to make a sound.
That face was unmistakably Jennifer's.
"Jennifer, Jennifer is back. Don't come for me. I didn't mean it, I didn't mean it. Please, don't come for me. I beg you."
The thing at the window started to laugh eerily, the sound piercingly sharp.
"I'm here, I've come for you. I'm here."
Olivia was scared out of her wits, scrambling to get up and run out. She tripped and fell but didn't care about the pain. She crawled and ran out, bumping right into Josep who was returning.
Josep had checked and found nothing, but now Olivia's face was as white as a sheet, and she was shouting, "She's here, she's come for me."
"What are you talking about? Olivia, what on earth is wrong with you?"
"She's here, it's a ghost. No, it's Jennifer. Jennifer has come to take my life. She's here."
Olivia glanced back, and the thing was still there, its hollow eyes staring at her.
"Don't come for me, I beg you, don't come for me." Olivia screamed shrilly, pushing Josep aside and running out as if a ghost really was chasing her.
Her screams were so piercing that the servants downstairs were all awakened.
Olivia ran and screamed, and the lights around her turned on, even alerting Owen in the front yard.
Owen came out of his room, and a servant ran over to report to him
"What happened?"
"There's a ghost in Josep and Olivia's room. Olivia said Jennifer came to take her life." The servant was also frightened by Olivia's screams.
"Bullshit!" Owen scolded.
In the shadows, Griffin, who was watching Olivia's antics on the monitor, laughed so hard he clutched his stomach.
Cecily couldn't help but laugh too. Rowan and Griffin had really scared Olivia tonight.
Cecily picked up Rowan and Griffin, who were sitting on the ground fiddling with something. "Let's go, or we'll be discovered."
Cecily, Rowan, and Griffin crouched and ran along the wall, heading out of Fitzgerald Manor.
Suddenly, Cecily felt like she bumped into something, or someone.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She looked up.
Oh no, they had been caught.
