Chapter 103: How Many Husbands Do You Have?
"Forget it, I'm just complaining," Jacob said, knowing that Brayden was falling for it.
"Which mall are you at? I'll be right there," Brayden said.
Jacob sent him the location and soon Brayden arrived.
As Jacob exaggerated the story to Brayden, he said, "Donovan doesn't like Chloe at all. He just used her as a front, and he's stingy enough to not even give her any money. He wants all the clothes she bought to be returned."
"Which clothes did she return?"
Jacob pointed them out to Brayden one by one.
"Wrap up these clothes and also, I'll give her a few more..." Brayden's mind conjured up Chloe's height. He had good taste and the clothes he picked for Chloe were very beautiful.
"In addition, please have your staff deliver these clothes to her house. This is her address..." Brayden said as he entered Chloe's address on his phone. "I'll pay extra, and they can come tomorrow afternoon."
"Sir, in whose name shall we send them?" The store employee noticed that Brayden was a big spender, having made a purchase of 300,000 dollars in one day.
Brayden frowned slightly, "Just say... just say they are from her husband."
Brayden's intention was to embarrass Donovan by claiming that Donovan had sent the clothes, even though he hadn't.
Jacob watched all of this with delight in his heart.
The next day, while Chloe and Donovan were having dinner at home, they heard a knock on the door.
A woman in uniform entered, carrying the clothes Chloe had returned yesterday. There were quite a lot, about ten or so.
Chloe recognized her as the store employee from yesterday who had processed her return.
"What's the matter?" Chloe thought that the woman had noticed something wrong with the clothes she returned.
"Oh, it's like this. Yesterday, you returned some clothes at our store, and your husband bought them back for you. He also bought a few more. Do you want to take a look?" the employee said.
Donovan paused his meal when he heard this and then continued eating without changing his expression.
Chloe looked at Donovan with gentle eyes. Although she didn't like extravagance and felt that the clothes were too expensive, she appreciated the thought behind Donovan's gesture.
"You didn't have to do this," Chloe said to Donovan. "They're too expensive, and I might not even wear them."
"Don't mention it!" Donovan wiped his hands with a tissue without expression and then threw it aside. "Keep them if you like."
After saying that, he went upstairs.
Grandpa downstairs smiled and said, "That's just Donovan. He doesn't know how to talk, and others won't appreciate him."
Chloe smiled warmly. Although she had known for some time that this marriage had an expiration date, she suddenly thought, maybe it would be nice if it didn't end? After all, Donovan treated her well.
She even felt a little jealous of Donovan's future wife.
Upstairs, Donovan made a call to his assistant, discussing the acquisition of the emerging mall. The emerging mall was the store where Chloe returned the clothes, and the answer from them was needed by the next morning.
The next day, while Chloe was at work, she received a WhatsApp message from Brayden: "Did you receive the clothes?"
Chloe was confused, "What?"
"I bought you clothes last night. Did you receive them?" Brayden sent several pictures consecutively, which were the clothes Chloe returned yesterday.
"You bought them? Wasn't it my husband who bought them?" Chloe was completely puzzled. Since it wasn't Donovan who bought the clothes, why did he say so last night? Based on Donovan's position, there was no need for him to lie. Wouldn't he feel embarrassed when the lie was exposed?
Although Chloe was suspicious, she had already made her own judgment: Brayden must have bought the clothes.
Chloe thought for a long time about how to ask Donovan without mentioning Brayden's name. If Donovan found out that Brayden bought the clothes, she wouldn't be able to get away with it.
After work, Chloe got in Donovan's car.
"Honey, I returned the clothes, and you bought them back for me. I love them! Thank you," Chloe said.
"I'm glad you like them." Donovan knew who bought the clothes, and since Chloe started calling him "honey" again, it meant that she knew who bought them too. It's possible that the other person had informed her.
"At first, I thought it wasn't you who bought them," Chloe pretended to test.
Donovan glanced at Chloe. "So, how many husbands do you have? Or maybe, I'm not as good as you think?"
"No, no, I absolutely did not mean that," Chloe hurriedly defended herself.
When they arrived home, another person who looked like a shop assistant was waiting, saying they came to deliver cosmetics and jewelry to Chloe.
Chloe looked at Donovan with confusion. She couldn't quite figure it out. This shop assistant was also from the new mall. Why were people from this mall always delivering things to her? It didn't seem like something Brayden would do.
"Just keep them," Donovan said to Chloe.
These cosmetics were quite expensive, and although Chloe didn't understand jewelry, it shouldn't come cheap either.
After the shop assistant left, Chloe asked Donovan, "Why is this mall always sending things to me lately?"
"Oh, I've been planning to acquire this mall. This is the acquisition proposal," Donovan placed the proposal in front of Chloe. "I guess they are trying to win your favor, so I will offer a high price."
Chloe was stunned for a moment. So, Brayden was lying?
