Donovan was chatting with Logan downstairs while Chloe was upstairs messaging Sofia on WhatsApp.
[Chloe, Logan's game is going to tank, and it's all my fault. I insisted on inviting you and Mr. Blake to the birthday party, and Mr. Blake invested in it. Now, Mr. Blake might lose money too because of this. I feel so guilty.]

Sofia, always a bit fragile, started rambling again: [The Elite family project canceled its deal with NexInnovate Technologies, so the big hit isn't happening. And Chloe, I just found out the new interns in our department are starting with salaries almost the same as mine, two thousand more than what we got as interns. I'm so frustrated. It's like that across the whole company, making me want to go for a master's degree. Logan is having a tough time, and so am I!]
Seeing Sofia's message, Chloe was silent for a long time.
Sofia's message hit a sore spot for Chloe.
She had always wanted to finish her education but never mentioned it to Donovan. She was afraid that if she brought it up and he disagreed, it would be even harder to bring it up later.
If she were like Sofia, a newcomer with no background, she would likely face the same situation.
Education had always been a thorn in Chloe's heart.
She had already received the offer. Everything was ready, except for her presence!
"What are you thinking about?" Donovan came upstairs and saw Chloe in a daze, so he asked her.
"Oh, Sofia just told me that the Elite family project is canceling its deal with NexInnovate Technologies. She's pretty anxious about it." Chloe didn't mention Sofia's comments about education.
"News travels fast. Logan just mentioned it too."
"Are you going to lose money?" Chloe asked nervously.
Donovan smiled. "It's just a bit of money."
Chloe thought to herself, 'The bit of money you mentioned might take me a lifetime to earn.'
"You're not worried about it?" Chloe asked.
"My heart is occupied with you. There's no room for anything else," he said casually.
Chloe blushed and thought, 'He must be joking, judging by his nonchalant tone.'
"How's the baby?" Chloe wanted to see Francis earlier, but Gordon got there first, and she didn't get to see him, which made her feel very frustrated.
"If you want to go down and see, no one's stopping you."
"I..."
Just as Chloe was about to argue with Donovan, her phone rang. It was a WhatsApp message from Carol.
Donovan's phone also rang. It was a call.
He went to answer the call.
[Chloe, my dad Virgil's film company is hosting a party. I see you're quite bored at home, so why don't you come?]
Chloe and Carol weren't that close, and Chloe was suspicious of Carol.
But thinking about Logan's company's failed collaboration with the Elite family, she wondered if she could find some opportunities through Carol. She only knew that Virgil became wealthy on his own but didn't know he also ran a film company.

Chloe thought, 'Since Sofia is so worried about Logan, I might as well give her this potential business opportunity and let her see if there's any chance for collaboration. Also, I always kept a cautious attitude towards Carol, fearing that getting too close might hurt me. So, I wanted Sofia to go with me, just in case something happened, and I'd have company.'
After replying to the WhatsApp message, Chloe kept staring at Donovan, who was on the phone.
He spoke very little, usually just saying "Hmm", "Okay", or "I've seen it". Chloe had no idea what he was talking about.
After he finished the call, Chloe asked him, "Who were you talking to?"
"HR department." Donovan stared at Chloe for a few moments. "Are you thinking of going back to the audit department?"
"It's still early for me. Even if I'm on maternity leave, I still have three months to rest." Chloe said. In fact, she just wanted to secretly check New East Group's hiring requirements to see if she met the standards.
But obviously, she couldn't get any information from Donovan.
She planned to search online another day.
"I'm going out tomorrow night," Chloe said to Donovan.
"What for?"
"Logan's company took a big hit, and Sofia wants to talk to me about it."
The reason she didn't tell him the truth was that she was afraid he wouldn't let her go if he knew.
Donovan knew Chloe had been bored at home for a long time, so he agreed.
