Chapter 411 You Know Who I'm Talking About?
Chloe left the Stellar Corp, and it was already past four.
On her cab ride back to campus, Chloe's mind was flooded with memories from the past. What exactly she was thinking, she couldn't say—just that her thoughts were a chaotic jumble of random musings.
Once she arrived at Willow Grove Estates, Chloe changed into something more comfortable, a T-shirt and shorts.
She had planned to relax for a bit before heading out for some food, but just as she was settling in, her phone rang.
"Ms. Baker, the basketball game is about to start. I've saved you a front-row center seat. Hurry up."
Chloe smiled. In her school days, she never got good seats at games. Now, as a teacher, she had a prime spot reserved.
"Okay," she replied and headed to the basketball court.
Isabel was already waving enthusiastically. "Ms. Baker, over here."
Isabel's call had drawn a lot of attention toward Chloe, her long legs and striking appearance impossible to ignore.
When Chloe glanced at the seat Isabel had saved for her, it was exactly as she had anticipated: a prominent spot right in the center, impossible to miss.
"I don't really get basketball rules," Chloe admitted to Isabel after sitting down.
"None of us do. We're here for the eye candy," Isabel laughed. "Look, there's Jeffery. He's amazing."
"Jeffery?" Chloe scanned the court.
"Yeah, half the girls are here for him. He's good-looking, plays well, and is the team captain," Isabel gushed.
Chloe smiled, thinking, 'I was probably just as silly in college.'
When she spotted Jeffery, he seemed to be looking her way too. Shirtless and sweaty, he took a sip of water and high-fived his teammates, riling up the crowd.
Chloe's mind drifted back to her college days. Andrew was on the basketball team too, but he wasn't as good as Jeffery. Still, he was the brightest in her eyes back then.
"Ms. Baker, isn't Jeffery great?" Isabel asked.
Chloe snapped back to reality. She hadn't really watched Jeffery play. "Yeah, he's pretty good. His moves are impressive," she said, giving Isabel what she wanted to hear.
"You saw it so clearly, Ms. Baker," Isabel said, excited.
Chloe smiled again, thinking, 'These silly kids.'
After the game, Chloe and Isabel went to the cafeteria to eat. Jeffery looked around for Chloe after the game, but she was already gone.
Meanwhile, Charles returned to Maple Valley around eight in the evening. On the way, he called Donovan.
"Donovan, guess who I ran into today?" Charles teased.
"Who? Your ex-girlfriend?"
"Donovan, be serious."
"I am serious," Donovan replied. He suspected that Charles had probably run into Cynthia. Back in the day, when Donovan was at Willowbrook College, Cynthia had visited him there. Charles, who was Donovan's junior during his undergraduate years, had completed his graduate and doctoral studies at Evergreen University.
"Forget it, Donovan. I'll tell you tomorrow at the office."
Donovan said, "Okay, I need to tuck Francis in."
After hanging up, Charles couldn't calm down. He figured Donovan would never guess he ran into Chloe.
The next day, Donovan was organizing materials in his office when Charles barged in without knocking.
Donovan glanced up. "Ever heard of knocking?"
"No time. I've been excited since yesterday."
"How is she?" Donovan asked calmly.
Charles felt Donovan had read his mind. "You know who I'm talking about?"
