Chapter 478 Lovers' Reunion
Not long after, Donovan's phone buzzed with a link from Charles. He clicked it, and it read: [The live broadcast hasn't started yet.]
Chloe and her crew rolled into the hotel, grabbed a quick bite, and then made their way to the conference hall. On the seats, there was a schedule for the forum, featuring top international financial experts, investment banking whizzes, and a mysterious guest speaker.
"Ms. Baker, who's the mystery guest?" Isabel asked, sitting to Chloe's left, with Saoirse on her right.
"There are so many big names; I have no clue who the mystery guest is," Chloe replied.
"I think this mystery guest is the biggest surprise. Let's look forward to it," Isabel said.
Chloe was totally into the forum the whole time. Then, at the last moment, the mystery guest showed up, and Chloe was floored. She stared at the stage, stunned—it was Brayden.
The host was all hyped up. "Our next speaker is the most famous accountant from Maple Valley, now also a financial expert, Mr. Brayden Perez. He'll be talking about sovereign wealth fund investments."
"Ms. Baker, this mystery guest is so handsome. Have you heard of Brayden?" Isabel was smitten again.
"Yeah," Chloe mumbled. She checked out Brayden; he was rocking glasses now. Chloe thought, 'Why do people look so different with glasses? Some look all smart and classy, while others look total sanctimonious.'
Brayden's voice was smooth, his speech was clear, funny, and easy to follow. Chloe zoned out for a sec, then started taking notes seriously.
The forum wrapped up around six, and everyone headed to the buffet restaurant. The restaurant was huge, and when Chloe was grabbing some fruit, her tongs clinked against another pair.
"Sorry," Chloe said instinctively.
"Chloe?" the other person said excitedly. Chloe looked up and saw Brayden adjusting his glasses, looking super excited.
"Brayden." Since Chloe already knew Brayden was there, she wasn't that surprised.
"Didn't expect to see you here. Where have you been all these years?" Brayden adjusted his glasses again, clearly shocked to see Chloe. Even though the forum was for financial pros, he didn't expect Chloe to be there, especially since she had been MIA for years.
"I got my PhD in finance at Emerald Isle and now teach at Pearl Peak University. I brought two of my students to the forum," Chloe said.
"Really? That's awesome." Seeing Chloe again, Brayden was so excited he looked like he was about to cry because Chloe was the girl who had stolen his heart at first sight. He took off his glasses, wiped his tears, and suddenly hugged Chloe. "Long time no see."
Chloe didn't push him away and said, "Long time no see."
After all, Brayden had helped her a lot, giving her diaries and books, and they had even started a firm together. After three years, the old feelings came rushing back. Today was a reunion of two good friends.
"Did you change your phone number? Let's add each other on WhatsApp," Brayden said, pulling out his phone. Chloe shared her QR code with Brayden.
There was a round of applause. "Old lovers meeting again, how sweet. After all these years, you two still act like you just parted yesterday," a sharp voice said.
Chloe looked past Brayden's shoulder as Brayden turned around too.
