Chapter 665 His Inner Thoughts
Chloe's recent move brought back all those warm fuzzy feelings Jeffery had for her.
She was exactly the kind of woman he'd always dreamed of—kind-hearted, thoughtful, stunning, and generous.
Donovan turned his head and caught the soft, loving look in Jeffery's eyes as he stared at Chloe.
Donovan's smile vanished instantly.
Charles and Charlotte exchanged a look, then said their goodbyes to Donovan.
Maya finished stitching the badge and handed it to Jeffery. She also went over to comfort Chloe.
"What's the big deal? You even slapped Dr. Allen? Was that really necessary?"
Jake had been hanging around the house for a while now, and she wasn't too thrilled with his behavior. Jane treated him well, so naturally, she sided with Jane.
Chloe's face was clouded with confusion, and she stayed silent.
"Mr. Blake, Chloe, Mom, I'm heading out now." Jeffery put on his hat.
As he reached the living room door, he turned back to look at Chloe one more time.
After Maya walked away, Jake got up from the floor and threw himself into Chloe's arms, crying, "Mom, Mom, I didn't mean to, I didn't mean to."
Even though Jake wasn't very sensible, he got what had just happened.
Chloe had slapped Jane for him because, in Chloe's eyes, his actions weren't considered stealing.
Jake was deeply moved, his heart warmed. From that moment on, he realized that not everyone was like Cynthia. At least Chloe would stand up for him, unlike Cynthia, who would lock him up, deprive him of food, and leave him without a blanket all night just to make him sick.
Donovan watched Jake hugging Chloe, feeling all sorts of emotions.
Francis came over and took Jake's hand, leading him to the nursery. "Come on, Jake, let's play. Don't listen to others."
Jake followed Francis to play.
While Francis played, Jake's mind was constantly active. Even though he was only three years old, he'd been through a lot, making him seem mature and understanding. He originally thought this family was just like Cynthia's. Having experienced what Cynthia was like, he assumed the world was the same. He thought this family, besides being wealthy, had adults just like Cynthia. But today, he saw it was completely different. Kids actually understand everything; if you treat them well, they will treat you even better.
Jake secretly vowed in his heart, 'From now on, he would definitely protect Francis and Chloe because they genuinely cared for him.'
Upstairs, Donovan said to Chloe, "You treat Jake so well?"
Chloe was a bit surprised. "Didn't you adopt him to teach him well? I didn't want to adopt him, but since we did, it's our responsibility."
Donovan didn't argue; he didn't share his inner thoughts with Chloe.
Until one day, Francis got into a fight at kindergarten.
The one fighting with Francis was Ralph Cook, the son of Vance Cook, the second richest man in Maple Valley.
This was an elite kindergarten where most wealthy families sent their kids.
The reason was that in the morning, when everyone was playing at the kindergarten, Ralph said to Francis, "Francis, I heard you have a sister named Rebecca, right?"
"Who told you that? Nonsense." Francis thought someone was going to talk about Donovan having an "illegitimate child" again and felt a bit defensive.
"My dad told me. He also said your dad is very shrewd," Ralph continued.
