Chapter 528 Come with me?
The next morning, when Chloe woke up, the first thing she noticed was Donovan's warm chest. Donovan used to get up very early, but for some reason, he hadn't gotten up yet this time.
"Why aren't you up yet?" Chloe turned over and asked.
Chloe checked on her phone; it was already past ten.
"No rush to get up when I'm not working in Pearl Peak City." After a moment, Donovan added, "Chloe."
"Yes?"
"Be with me?"
Those words made Chloe open her eyes and she said, "Haven't I already been with you for a long time?"
Chloe had somewhat resigned herself to her fate. She felt that no matter how deeply she studied, she could never surpass Donovan. It was better to stay by his side. Donovan's sharp insight and foresight regarding James's issues had led Chloe to this conclusion.
"Not a contractual marriage, but genuinely together. From now on, feel free to talk and consult with me." Donovan said.
Thinking about the past, Chloe realized she had faults too, and then thought of Pamela, which inevitably made her feel concerned.
But since things had reached to this point, Chloe decided to go all in.
Chloe nodded solemnly.
Donovan seemed a bit skeptical. "Really?"
"Of course." Chloe said. "I've thought it over. You're so smart. No matter who I stay with, it's not as safe as staying with you. Your sharp thoughts always lead to the best solutions."
Donovan chuckled. "Not always. I do make mistakes sometimes."
"You make mistakes? When?" Chloe turned to ask him innocently, the blanket slipping off her shoulder
"About you!" Donovan said.
Chloe couldn't help but feel a bit disheartened, and her tone showed her displeasure. "If you made a mistake with me, why do you still want me to be with you? Isn't that contradictory?"
"Let's just see it through to the end." Donovan seemed quite helpless.
Chloe closed her eyes, not wanting to talk to Donovan anymore. "Maya has an issue with me. Can you speak to her for me?"
"It's just a small matter." After saying that, Donovan rolled over onto Chloe, kissing her heavily but with extreme gentleness.
Chloe slowly closed her eyes.
Over the past few years, no man had been able to enter Chloe's heart and touch her body like Donovan. Although their marriage wasn't dignified, it didn't mean there was no love afterwards.
"If that's the case, why won't you lend me money?" Chloe asked, dissatisfied.
"I already have four or five properties in Pearl Peak City. Why do you need to buy another house?" he said.
Chloe was speechless.
Chloe then told Donovan everything about Pamela threatening her. Unexpectedly, Donovan didn't take it seriously at all.
"Just for that?" Donovan looked at Chloe.
"Of course not. I also resent you for what you did to my mom, but despite my resentment, it doesn't mean I won't stay in touch with you."
Donovan's face turned grim. "Let's go eat," he said.
But when they entered the living room, only Francis was there playing.
"Where's Maya?" Donovan asked.
"Maya said she went back to Maple Valley first." Francis said, looking at Donovan, then at Chloe.
Chloe's face showed an awkward expression again. "Maya still resents me after all."
"It'll get better with time." Donovan didn't seem to care, and the three started eating.
"Mom, what is your plan after eating?" Francis asked.
"Well, I have a friend at school to accompany. We'll have plenty of time together later, okay, Francis?" Chloe pinched Francis's nose as she spoke.
"Mom, don't pinch. Otherwise my nose will get longer." Francis said.
"Learned that from your dad." Chloe said.
"You still remember?" Donovan asked.
Chloe lowered her head to eat. "I remember everything."
Donovan seemed to be touched but didn't say anything.
