Chapter 166 The $500,000 Check

Paisley had been crying as if it was hard to speak.

"I told you before that your corneas were from my dad, but that day my mom told me, it wasn't true at all. My dad's death anniversary was not that day, it's a day later.

"When my dad died, my mom was scared of being poor. She's a lonely woman and couldn't find another way. I happen to have a distant uncle who is the hospital's director. I don't know how my mom did it, but she switched the person who donated the corneas to you to my dad, because she thought you had a great future, Donovan.

"My mom has been lying to you for so many years, and she has lied to me for so many years. I have always regarded you as my benefactor. I'm sorry, Donovan. I'm so ashamed, I've told my mom off."

This was the result of Paisley and Lori's discussion.

They felt that once Amelia woke up, this matter couldn't be kept secret. Donovan would eventually find out, so it was better to come clean and shift all the blame to Lori. At least in Donovan's eyes, Paisley would be seen as innocent.

"Is that so?" Donovan seemed to have just learned about this. "Then whose corneas are mine?"

Donovan also seemed to be unaware of this, as Amelia and Chloe hadn't told him anything.

"I don't know about that, Donovan. Blame me if you want. I'mreturning your property deed. I've relied on you too much over the years. I can't face living in your house anymore." After saying that, Paisley wiped her face with her hand and started crying.

"Alright, the house is still there. Go home for the holidays and spend time with your mom," Donovan issued the eviction order.

"Donovan, you're not blaming me?" Paisley asked.

"I'm not."

"Then I'll go. Donovan, aren't you going to see me off?" Paisley looked reluctant to leave.

"I'm staying home to accompany Chloe."

Paisley gritted her teeth and left.

Donovan went upstairs.

The door to another room on the first floor quietly closed.

Amelia was originally asleep, just getting up at night, but when she opened the door, she saw Donovan chatting enthusiastically with a woman.

She knew eavesdropping was not good, but for the sake of her daughter, she stood there and listened for a while, only to hear about this matter.

In other words, for the past six years, it was this woman and her mom who had been taking credit for Todd's achievements.

And Donovan played his part authentically.

Chloe was packing her things, still in holiday mode, her clothes not yet put away.

"This is for you," Donovan handed it over.

"What?" Chloe reached out her hand.

It was a $500,000 check. Donovan hadn't given her money in a long time.
This was indeed a reminder to her: she was selling herself and had no right to envy.

"Thank you." Chloe raised her face and said to Donovan.

Only she knew how forced that smile was.

$500,000 for ten days of her company, the cost was indeed high.

Looking afraid the check might fly away, Chloe searched for somewhere to put it away.

In the end, she tucked the check into her textbook on Financial Cost Management.

Between him and her, only money was left.

Chloe walked past Donovan, who suddenly grabbed her chin, recalling the scene downstairs when she was casually playing with the cat.

He felt a surge of anger for no reason.

"For $500,000, serve me wholeheartedly for ten days. Smile!" Donovan commanded.

He had noticed that Chloe's forced smiles were no longer as carefree as before.

"I've always been smiling, haven't I? When setting off fireworks, I smile; when having New Year's Eve dinner, I smile; even when Paisley comes, I smile." Speaking of Paisley, Chloe felt a chill in her heart.

"Serve me wholeheartedly in bed!" Donovan whispered in Chloe's ear.

"Okay," Chloe replied.

With a holiday tomorrow, Chloe spent the night serving Donovan comfortably.

When she woke up the next day, her head felt heavy, and she had a sense of not knowing what day it was, even forgetting that today was the first day of the holiday.

"Chloe, there's a package for you downstairs." Donovan called out to her downstairs.

Chloe replied with an "okay," not even knowing when she had woken up.
As she was about to leave, she glanced at the trash can in the bedroom, which was a mess, tissues and condoms almost filling it up.

Afraid that Maya would see it when she came to clean up, she decided to take it down herself and throw it in the outside trash can.

Wearing the red dress her mom had bought her yesterday, Chloe picked up the trash and went downstairs.

But when she reached the living room, she saw a large group of people.

Instinctively, Chloe put the garbage bag behind her.
