Chapter 344 You Know What I Mean, Right?
No one from New East Group showed up, but that didn't bother Logan and Sofia. After all, Sofia was Chloe's good friend.
When Chloe was about to be discharged, she and Logan came to the hospital.
Logan noticed Chloe's blanket wasn't adequately covered and carefully tucked it in. "You just had a baby, don't catch a cold."
Chloe smiled. "Logan's so thoughtful. Sofia, you're lucky!"
"Yeah, lucky me," Sofia replied, her smile a bit forced.
Logan wasn't thoughtful towards Sofia. He didn't even know her birthday.
After Logan and Sofia left, an unexpected guest arrived.
It took Chloe a moment to recognize her. It was Carol, a former colleague who had hurt her deeply.
At First Accounting Firm, Chloe had only seen Carol once at the annual meeting. She had overheard Carol in the restroom, which had upset her. Back then, everyone was heavily made up and wearing formal dresses, completely different from the bare-faced beauty Carol was today.
"Chloe, don't you recognize me?" Carol asked, trying to sound affectionate.
"Carol?"
Chloe couldn't believe Carol had come to see her.
Carol glanced at Donovan, who was sitting on the sofa. He knew why Carol was there.
"Chloe, long time no see. You've had a baby, and he's so cute." Carol's tone was no longer as arrogant as it used to be.
Chloe just gave a wry smile.
"I brought you a big gift package. It has clothes for the baby, skincare products for you, waist support, and all sorts of things you might need," Carol said.
Chloe looked at Carol with suspicion, feeling she needed to think carefully about accepting the gift.
Seeing Chloe's expression, Carol said, "Let me be direct. I had my dad change the company name to Scott, but we haven't gotten a single order."
Carol glanced again at Donovan, who seemed indifferent.
Chloe also glanced at him a few times.
"Yes. I had just graduated and was naive. I was willful and did many things that wronged you. That was all in the past. Chloe, can you forgive me?" Carol held Chloe's hand.
Chloe looked at Donovan, who was still casually flipping through a magazine.
Chloe knew why Carol had come. Donovan had intercepted all her projects, striking her. Realizing she couldn't mess with them, she had come to Chloe to plead with Donovan.
"Okay," Chloe said.
"Shall we make a pact?" Carol said childishly. "I'm not like Barbara. I won't scheme against you. You can use this gift package without worry. Since I've taken this step, I've let go of the past. Let's not hold grudges, okay?"
Seeing Carol's sincere expression, Chloe said, "Okay. Let's make a pact."
After making the pact, Chloe added, "But you won't get much help from me. Brayden is one of the top accountants in Maple Valley. You need to connect with him more. With his help, you'll do better."
"Easier said than done. Because of what happened, we haven't spoken in a long time," Carol said. "What I did back then only hurt myself. I was naive. Can you help me talk to him?"
"My words don't carry much weight. I'm afraid I won't be able to convince him. But I'll give it a try," Chloe said, also for Donovan to hear, so she glanced at him.
She was afraid he wouldn't let her contact Brayden.
"Deal. You get some rest. I'll be going now." With that, Carol left.
The room was left with just Chloe, Donovan, and the baby in the crib.
"You get what I mean, right?" Chloe asked Donovan.
Donovan replied, "Hmm, what do you mean?"
"Are you pretending not to understand?" Chloe got anxious.
Donovan looked down. "Fate arranges relationships between people, not you."
He left Chloe speechless.
Earlier, Chloe had noticed that Carol was quite good-looking and seemed straightforward. Chloe wanted to connect her with Brayden to prevent Donovan from constantly misunderstanding her relationship with Brayden. If Brayden had someone he liked, he wouldn't think about Chloe anymore.
With Donovan's words, Chloe suddenly felt like a morally questionable matchmaker.
She pulled the blanket over her head and ignored Donovan.
