Chapter 495 Why Were You Crying Again?
In that session, Derek hypnotized Chloe because he could tell she was in pretty bad shape. Chloe had no clue what she said while she was out, but when she woke up, Derek was looking at her differently.
After that, she started going to Derek's clinic once a week. Maybe it was because he was a psychologist; he was super easy to talk to and really got her. Over time, they became really good friends, maybe even a bit more than that. Chloe felt way closer to Derek than she did to Brayden. In a foreign country, Derek was the only one she could really open up to.
The answer Derek was asking for after three years was that if she wanted to keep being with Donovan. He had asked her this three years ago because Chloe couldn't stand what Donovan was doing.
Back then, Chloe didn't have an answer, and she still didn't. Besides Amelia, Donovan had taken two more lives. Even though Chloe didn't care about those two and even disliked them, she couldn't ignore how ruthless Donovan was.
Tonight, Chloe was lost in thought and couldn't sleep again. She saw a message on WhatsApp from Sofia: [Can I bring Loren to see you tomorrow?]
The message was sent three hours ago when Chloe was watching a video with Derek and missed it.
Chloe replied: [Sure, come over.]
Sofia didn't reply.
Chloe fell asleep. In a daze, she heard a knock, instinctively got up to open the door, and then went back to bed.
Derek came in and sat by her bed. "I've got a meeting, Chloe."
"Okay." Chloe turned over and kept sleeping. She'd only had three hours of sleep and was still groggy.
Derek sat quietly by her side, noticing tear stains on the white pillowcase. "Why were you crying again? What were you thinking about last night?"
When Chloe heard him mention crying, she woke up but kept her back to him. Derek gently leaned down and kissed her forehead. "I'll take you out to eat after my meeting."
"I'm not free today. A classmate is coming over," Chloe said.
Derek smiled softly. "Then when are you free?"
"I'll text you when I am. Aren't you staying for a few days?" Chloe asked.
"Yeah."
"Then wait for me," Chloe said.
Derek tucked her in and left.
A guy as gentle and understanding as Derek could easily win a woman's heart. Plus, he was super rich and part of the nobility in Emerald Isle. Despite all that, he always treated Chloe like a princess. He respected her a lot, totally different from Donovan.
At midnight, after Jake finished his IV drip, Donovan took him and Cynthia home. On the way, Jake mumbled "Mom" to Cynthia in his sleep and called Donovan, who was driving, "Dad." Donovan glanced at him through the rearview mirror but didn't say anything.
Luckily, Jake fell back asleep. But Jake's words made Cynthia's mind wander. She thought, 'How great would it be if Donovan were really Jake's dad.'
Cynthia knew she was just daydreaming; Donovan already had Francis.
Cynthia went to the study and handed Donovan a bank card. "If you want to lend me money, just transfer it to this card."
Donovan took a photo of it. "I'll message you after I transfer the money."
"Okay."
After settling Jake down, Donovan was about to leave, and Cynthia didn't push him to stay.
