Chapter 69: He really wants you to get pregnant
On Saturday, Chloe and Sofia went shopping and happened to come across Heaven Street Bookstore, the largest bookstore in Maple Valley.
With four floors, it was more luxurious than most malls and a popular place for social media check-ins.
Chloe wanted to buy a textbook on financial cost management from here, as well as some practice questions.
As long as she passed this last exam next year, she could obtain her Certified Public Accountant certification.
When the two entered the store, they found a long line as if there was a book signing event. To their surprise, it was Brayden.
"Brayden?" Chloe was taken aback.
In early autumn, Brayden was wearing a stylish grey shirt.
"Chloe? Are you here at the bookstore too?" Brayden signed while glancing at his watch. "You guys go ahead and browse, I still have about fifteen minutes left to sign."
Chloe picked out the textbook she wanted to buy, and Sofia bought a novel, murmuring the whole time, "Books here are really expensive."
After Brayden finished signing, he still had two books in his hand.
"These are for both of you, one for each."
Chloe took one, and the title was "CPAs and Life."
"You wrote this?" Chloe's eyes lit up as she looked at Brayden with admiration.
"Yes."
Chloe looked at the dedication Brayden had written for her on the front page, "Wishing you the early realization of your life ideals."
"Thank you, Brayden."
Both of them probably thought that the incident at the hotel was too awkward, so nobody brought it up.
"I need to go back to the firm now. Do you want to come along?" Brayden glanced at his watch again.
He was also very busy and had to manage his time carefully.
Chloe had always aspired to work at a firm, so she naturally felt happy when she heard Brayden's invitation, especially since she didn't have much to do today.
The two of them got into Brayden's car.
Brayden said that tomorrow, when he got home, he would find Chloe the notes on financial cost management. He had highlighted the key points and made annotations. With Chloe's intelligence, if she worked hard, she would definitely pass.
"After waiting for a while, Brayden casually mentioned going to work at his office."
Chloe remembered Ellie, who also started working at a law firm before obtaining her professional license.
"I haven't obtained my certificate yet, can I still go?" Chloe asked.
Sofia nudged Chloe's arm and gave her a meaningful look, indicating clearly that she shouldn't take the job lightly, considering the rare opportunity to work at New East Group.
She thought Chloe was acting out of anger.
"Sure, you can start as an assistant and later become a certified accountant. You'll catch on quickly," said Brayden.
Chloe was already intrigued. Becoming a certified accountant had been her dream since she was fifteen. Moreover, working at a large corporation like New East Group meant dealing with nosy people who constantly pried into her and Donovan's affairs. With all this time spent on gossip, how could they focus on their work? Furthermore, Donovan might be the subject of the rumors, which heightened everyone's interest. However, living a life constantly discussed by others was not easy.
Most importantly, Chloe and Donovan had a major disagreement, which also dampened her expectations for New East Group.
When Chloe stood outside Brayden's accounting firm, she was stunned.
It was the South Central accounting firm.
Dylan had mentioned that Brayden owned the South Central accounting firm during their last meeting at the hotel.
It was the largest accounting firm in Maple Valley and housed the best accountants.
Chloe suddenly felt a surge of excitement. "You are the founder and partner of the South Central accounting firm..."
Brayden confirmed it. "That's correct."
Chloe was instantly impressed by Brayden.
Brayden gave them a tour, showing them that each accountant had their own office and everyone was busy at work.
Through the glass doors, she saw how focused and meticulous everyone was in their work attire.
This was what professionalism looked like. Chloe yearned for a working environment like this, as if it were a place from her dreams.
"Are you hiring here?" Chloe asked Brayden with shining eyes.
"Yes, one of my partners, Accountant Ann, is hiring an assistant. She's a female accountant, but unfortunately, there are very few candidates who meet her requirements. Would you like to give it a try?" Brayden asked.
Chloe nodded solemnly.
This was the working environment she had always longed for.
Chloe and Sofia took the bus back to avoid inconveniencing Brayden.
"Chloe, I still think that the job opportunity at New East Group is rare. You should reconsider your decision to quit," Sofia said.
Chloe glanced at her and replied, "I can't stand it anymore. It's chaotic, and there are too many rumors about the people in the company."
Sofia agreed with her on this point as well.
Sofia asked Chloe why she had a falling out with Donovan, and Chloe explained in detail what happened on her grandfather's birthday. However, Chloe concealed one thing - the purpose of taking the pregnancy test results. She claimed it was to prove it to Paisley, without mentioning Jacob's proposed "contract marriage."
What infuriated Chloe the most was that Donovan listened to Paisley's every word.
Sofia nodded thoughtfully and said, "It sounds to me like Mr. Blake only acts like he listens to Paisley, but in reality, it's because her words struck a nerve with him. He wants you to get pregnant, but you terminated the pregnancy, which angered him."
Chloe looked at Sofia for three seconds and said, "Him? Impossible!"
Sofia felt that since it was a misunderstanding between the two, she should help clear it up.
