Chapter 423 Mr. Blake

Chloe saw Jeffery and quickly looked away, pretending not to notice. Jeffery shot her a look that said, "You can't hide from me. "If he didn't have to go to Donovan's house that afternoon, he would've insisted on joining her for lunch.

After lunch, Jeffery followed Larry's instructions to take the paintings out of the display case and hang them above his bed and desk.

"Not letting anyone else see them?" his roommate Patrick James teased.

"Just for me," Jeffery replied.

After another glance at Chloe's painting, Jeffery changed into casual clothes and headed out. He was going to Donovan's house and wanted to look sharp. He'd never been this serious about anything.

Following Donovan's directions, he arrived at Kenneth's house. Donovan and Charles were chatting on the couch, probably about work stuff like investments. Francis was likely napping since he wasn't around.

When Jeffery arrived, Donovan and Charles stopped talking, probably because it was confidential, and started chatting instead.

"You are quite handsome," Charles said to Jeffery. "No wonder Donovan feels he can't compete with you."

Donovan shot Charles a glare.

"Have you won over the girl you like?" Donovan asked Jeffery.

"No luck there. She reported me last night, and I just got a stern talking-to from the academic dean."

"Hmm, she's got quite the fiery temperament. Last night?" Donovan's tone was curious, and then he eyed Jeffery with a smirk. "Did you two sleep together?"

"Don't even go there!" Jeffery waved his hand dismissively, clearly taken aback by Donovan's bluntness.

The way Donovan looked at Jeffery and his nonchalant attitude suggested that, for Donovan, the idea of "sleeping with someone" was probably just another day at the office.

"So many rules for dating?" Donovan said. "I'm guessing you did something to really tick her off."

Donovan didn't know Jeffery was interested in a teacher. He thought Jeffery might have tried to sleep with the girl last night.

"She's definitely pissed off," Jeffery admitted.

"Sleeping isn't a bad thing," Donovan said.

He had some free time and figured discussing relationships with the younger crowd might be entertaining—it kept him from feeling his age.

"Alright, we should get going. Francis is sleeping; take care of him when he wakes up," Donovan said, and he and Charles left.

Chloe was dressed neatly today because she had to go to Stellar Corp. Last time, she skipped the meeting but watched the video and sent her comments to Timothy. Timothy said New East Group had drafted an agreement and wanted to discuss it. If Chloe was available, she should come to the office to go over the contract with the legal director and New East Group. This collaboration involved several billion dollars, so Chloe had to go.

She also noticed that Donovan had been sending Charles to all meetings and didn't attend himself. It seemed he didn't want to face Chloe.

Since he wasn't showing up, Chloe had to—after all, she would have to deal with Charles eventually.

At Stellar Corp, before Charles arrived, Chloe and the legal director were in a small conference room discussing the contract details with Timothy. They were so engrossed that Chloe didn't hear the footsteps outside.

Just as Chloe was animatedly discussing the contract, Timothy stood up. "Mr. Blake, hello."

Chloe looked up and saw Donovan.
