Chapter 647 Missed Another Step
Donovan's shirt and suit were top-notch. Normally, he'd just grab whatever, but today he was being choosy. Why?
"Meeting up with some folks," Donovan said.
"A gathering? With who?" Chloe asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Abigail and Charles, old classmates from way back."
"Not taking me?"
Donovan looked up at Chloe, holding her arm, "Wanna come along? Sure. Change your clothes."
Seeing his reaction, Chloe didn't push it. It was a reunion with old friends, and she figured her presence might be unnecessary. Plus, she had lessons to prep.
"I'm not going," Chloe said.
"Really not going?"
"Yeah."
Donovan knew she wouldn't go, which is why he suggested it. He drove off.
Today, he was meeting up to talk about Jeffery and Cynthia. If Chloe tagged along, he wouldn't be able to say much.
Flashback to the day before.
After Jeffery's training wrapped up, Jane came to find him while he was shooting hoops.
Jane watched him from the sidelines.
Coincidentally, Charlotte showed up too. Since she wasn't trying to impress Maya anymore, she was all about winning over Jeffery.
She stood off to the side, holding a control panel, filming Jeffery's moves while keeping an eye on him. Jeffery was good-looking; even the way he wiped his sweat with his jersey and drank water was super attractive.
After the game, a drone slowly descended in front of Jeffery's face.
Jeffery had no clue what Charlotte was up to, nor did he know the drone was hers, so he was a bit puzzled.
Everyone around was watching Jeffery with amusement.
"Hey, there's a note on this drone. Aren't you gonna check it out?"
"Yeah, maybe some girl has a crush on Jeffery and wrote him a love letter."
Everyone laughed and gathered around to see.
Someone pulled the note off the drone, opened it, and read aloud, "Whoever pulls off this note is mine."
Laughter erupted around them.
Charlotte watched from a distance. Seeing that it wasn't Jeffery who pulled the note, she stomped her foot and muttered, "Who told you to meddle?"
Jeffery looked around and saw Jane.
He always thought it was Jane's doing, so he ignored it and walked away. As he passed by Jane, he said, "Is this fun for you?"
Jane was a bit confused.
Charlotte saw Jeffery talking to Jane but didn't hear what was said. She only saw his expressionless face when he saw the note, which made her even angrier.
Although someone else had pulled the note, he knew it wasn't meant for him. The drone had hovered around Jeffery for a long time, so it was meant for him. Now that Jeffery had stormed off, they whistled behind him, "Going home? What are you gonna do about the note from the girl?"
Some people speculated that Jane wrote the note, but most guessed it was Charlotte, as her pursuit of Jeffery was an open secret.
Seeing no reaction to her message, Charlotte left.
The group of guys, seeing no further action, also left.
Before leaving, they casually tossed the note aside. Jane picked it up and read it. Earlier, while they were playing basketball, Jane had also seen Charlotte sitting far away.
She thought, 'This girl has quite a few tricks up her sleeve. But fortunately, Jeffery thought Jane wrote it.'
She had one less step to take in her pursuit of Jeffery. Great!
