Chapter 269 Do You Care About Her?
Chloe was sitting on the bed when Sofia sent her a WhatsApp message: [Chloe, I just got back to Maple Valley. Aren't you going to treat me to a meal?]
Chloe had nothing to do these days, so she replied: [Sure. You pick the place.]
Sofia: [I'm not as well-traveled as you, following Mr. Blake around. You pick the place.]
Chloe remembered a restaurant Donovan had taken her to before, and the food wasn't bad. She sent the location of that restaurant to Sofia.
Chloe: [How about this place?]
Sofia: [Mr. Blake took you there, didn't he?]
Chloe: [If he hasn’t taken me there, would you go? He took me there, he took me there, he took me there.]
Exasperated, Chloe sent the message three times to Sofia.
Sofia: [Since Mr. Blake went there, it must have been a bit pricey. Since you're treating me, it has to be an expensive place. How about tomorrow morning? I need to drop something off for my sister first.]
Chloe: [Alright.]
On the 8th, Chloe was about to go out, and Maya was tagging along. Just then, Maya came running out of the bathroom and said to Chloe, "Chloe, the faucet in the bathroom is broken. It's spraying water everywhere, and I don't know how to fix it. I don't even know the property management's phone number."
Susan had already sent Chloe a WhatsApp message saying she was waiting downstairs. Chloe checked the time; it was eleven o'clock.
"Never mind, call the property management once we're in the car. Just use something to block the water for now," Chloe said.
"Okay." Maya went to the bathroom and came out shortly after.
Once they were in the car, Maya was constantly on WhatsApp. She was messaging Donovan.
Maya: [Mr. Blake, the faucet in the bathroom is leaking. I don't know the property management's phone number. Can you tell me so I can ask them to come fix it?]
Donovan didn't reply.
"I asked Mr. Blake for the property management's phone number, but he hasn't replied," Maya said to Chloe.
"He's probably busy," Chloe said, though she had no idea what he might be busy with.
"What should we do? If it keeps leaking, the floor will be slippery, and I'm afraid you might fall," Maya said.
Hearing this, Chloe felt a warmth in her heart. She had initially wanted to say, "Don't tell him everything about my life," but at this moment, such cautious words didn't come out.
"It's fine. I just won't use that bathroom," Chloe said.
They happened to run into Sofia at the restaurant entrance. After handing Chloe over to Sofia, Maya left in Susan's car.
Maya told Chloe to call her when she was done, as she was going shopping with Susan.
Unfortunately, when they entered the restaurant, the staff said all the private rooms were occupied, so they had to eat in the courtyard.
The courtyard was fully enclosed and air-conditioned, so it wasn't cold. Chloe understood that the place would be crowded during the holidays.
The waiter seated them by a window. Chloe nestled comfortably on a sofa. Inside the window was a private room with two people in it: Donovan and Paisley.
The outside noises were clearly audible through the window, but Chloe and Sofia couldn't hear what was being said inside the private room.
"Well, well, what a coincidence. There's your ex-wife, and her belly is quite big," Paisley said, staring at Chloe's belly.
The bigger Chloe's belly got, the happier Paisley was because it wasn't Donovan's child. She figured Donovan would find it an eyesore, too.
"Yes," Donovan said, glancing outside indifferently. He had seen Chloe as soon as she entered the courtyard.
"You haven't been living with her recently, have you?" Paisley asked cautiously.
"No. I'm staying at Hillside Villa," Donovan replied, lightly twirling a coffee cup in his hand.
"It's all in the past now, right, Donovan?" Paisley asked.
"Yes."
Hearing Donovan's response, Paisley felt relieved. After all, Donovan and Chloe were divorced and living separately, and Chloe was pregnant with Brayden's child. Chloe was no longer important to Donovan.
Only when the trouble named Chloe was out of the picture did Paisley finally feel at ease.
"How’s Barbara doing?" Donovan asked.
Paisley was taken aback for a moment. "You actually care about her."
