Chapter 338 Where Are You?
Donovan quickly walked to the door.
Lori scrambled to the door of his office, blocking it, and clung to Donovan's legs, preventing him from leaving.
"Move!" Donovan shouted.
Lori wailed. "Donovan, just do a good deed. You promised before that you would let Paisley make a comeback. Why are you going back on your word? Is it because that woman has bewitched you?"
"Get out of the way!" Donovan tried to free his legs, but Lori held on with all her strength.
"Donovan, you can't treat Paisley like this. You two were such a great couple back in the day." Lori cried out.
Her cries could be heard throughout the entire floor.
Donovan took out his phone to call Chloe.
But at that moment, an unknown number called, and the phone kept ringing.
Donovan had no choice but to answer.
"Mr. Blake, this is Gary from Elevate Structures Group. Sharon previously requested a comparison of accounts, but we forgot to submit our accounts to your company's audit department. It's our fault. Since Chloe used to handle the accounts, we overlooked the fact that she no longer works at First Accounting Firm. I'm very sorry, Mr. Blake, truly sorry." Gary sounded extraordinarily apologetic and eager to please.
"Got it!" Donovan quickly hung up and called Chloe again.
But Chloe's phone was busy.
Chloe was on the phone with Susan, asking her to take her home.
Chloe felt that coming back here had been completely unnecessary.
"Susan, where are you now? Can you take me home?" Chloe asked at the entrance of New East Group.
"You want to go home now? I just got back to my place to get your songbook. I thought you were going home with Mr. Blake today. Wait a moment, I'll come down now," Susan said.
"Oh, never mind, since you're already home," Chloe said.
"Don't go by yourself. If something happens, I can't take responsibility," Susan said nervously.
"It won't," Chloe said and hung up.
Donovan called Susan, and Susan told him about her conversation with Chloe.
Donovan finally freed himself from Lori and went outside.
He got in his car and sent Chloe a WhatsApp message: [Don't listen to her nonsense! It's not true.]
[Where are you? Call me back.]
At this moment, Chloe wanted to find a place to catch her breath, so she took a cab to Maple Valley Park, where the scenery was beautiful.
She wanted to sit in the park for a while before going home.
Lori's words had upset her, and she was having trouble breathing. She sat on a bench in the park to calm her emotions, but her abdomen was faintly aching.
She thought it might be temporary and decided to wait it out. If it didn't get better, she would go to the hospital to see Jane.
Betty invited Chloe to a voice chat.
Chloe guessed it was probably about Barbara again.
"Aunt," Chloe answered.
"Chloe, have you talked to Mr. Blake?" Betty asked anxiously.
"Oh, I haven't seen him yet. I'm getting some air in the park."
"Chloe, I apologize for what Barbara did to you before, but Barbara really hurt one of her eyes. It's bandaged now, and it breaks my heart to see it," Betty started crying.
Chloe felt soft-hearted.
"I'm at Maple Valley Park now. I'll talk to him when I get home tonight," Chloe said.
No matter what Betty and Barbara were like, Daniel was a good person. Over the years, Daniel had always acted according to Betty's wishes, which was pitiful.
"Don't forget."
Chloe responded with an "Mm" and ended the voice chat.
Looking at the calm water, Chloe couldn't help but think of the time she went boating with Donovan.
It was a warm spring day, just the two of them.
Her phone was on the bench, and she hadn't checked it.
In the distance, a woman approached, her eyes bandaged.
Chloe thought, 'Barbara, why is she here?'
'Did she overhear the conversation with Betty? Or did Betty tell her about I am now at Maple Valley Park on WhatsApp?'
Seeing Barbara made Chloe uneasy. If Barbara wanted to harm her, she wouldn't be able to defend herself.
She quickly sent Susan a WhatsApp message: [I'm at Maple Valley Park, come quickly.]
Then she sent Susan her location.
Barbara had already arrived.
She looked furious, took off a ring from her hand, and threw it into Chloe's lap.
"Take it back!" Barbara snarled.
Chloe looked closely and realized it was her gemstone ring.
She had always thought the ring was lost with Walter's death.
