Chapter 221 Fly Away
Chloe was preparing to leave the country, and Sofia and Logan came to bid her farewell.
Ever since she started taking the contraceptive pill, Chloe had not crossed paths with Donovan. She had no desire to see him either.
Chloe held Amelia close to her heart and put on a polite smile for her friends as they said their goodbyes. This trip abroad marked Chloe's first time traveling internationally.
Donovan had set up a school for her, but she refused to attend. Instead, she reached out to another school independently to pursue a finance major.
Her goal was to earn a master's degree, beginning with a year of preparatory courses. Obtaining a master's degree would require a minimum of three to four years.
By the end of this period, she would be twenty-eight, and everything would be completed.
'Wealthy men like Donovan preferred younger women.' Chloe thought.
She allowed him sufficient time and freedom to seek out a new partner. In the end, he would eagerly cast Chloe aside.
"Chloe, don't forget to keep in touch with us," Sofia said worriedly to Chloe.
"Sure, don't worry," Chloe replied.
Even long after Chloe entered the airport, Logan was still standing there.
"She's gone. What are you looking at!" Sofia said to Logan.
Logan finally came back to his senses.
Donovan's car was parked far away at the airport, and he saw her enter without looking back.
She looked very happy.
While on the plane, Chloe reflected on the highs and lows of the past year. If it weren't for the unexpected turn of events at the start, she might have been feeling a bit more at ease now, and most importantly, Amelia would still be alive.
However, the future is unpredictable, and Chloe never imagined that Amelia would meet such an unjust end.
After arriving in Verdania, Chloe searched for a school and a house, keeping herself busy all day.
She thought that maybe staying busy would help her forget the sadness.
She switched her phone number to one from Verdania since she hardly used her local number.
One day, more than a month later, she received a WhatsApp message from Brayden: [Chloe, where are you in Verdania?]
Chloe had secured a one-bedroom apartment close to the school in Verdania, where she spent her days eating bread, studying the language, and preparing for the auditor exam. She made the decision to go back to her home country in October to sit for the exam.
Chloe wondered, 'Brayden is already here in Verdania?'
She sent Brayden her location.
Brayden: [I'll come to see you tomorrow.]
The experience of being in a foreign country was distinct from being in her homeland. Chloe felt a sense of joy when a fellow countryman visited her among a group of foreigners. In this unfamiliar setting, she didn't need to be as vigilant as she was back home, considering no one here was familiar with her, and her interactions with Donovan were limited.
Chloe: [Okay.]
The next day, Brayden arrived. He was wearing a T-shirt and looked like a college student.
"You're here! Let me treat you to a meal. But the food abroad is not that good," Chloe complained.
Brayden smiled, "Follow me."
Chloe followed Brayden.
Brayden had a car overseas. He took Chloe to a discreet restaurant where they didn't even have to place an order.
Shortly after, the waiter served them with very exquisite dishes.
"Try it," he said.
Chloe took a bite of the food and found it delicious. She smiled at Brayden and asked, "Why did you arrive so early?”
"I finished handing it over to Ann. There's nothing to do back home, so I came. I want to study abroad for a year and set up a firm. How about we partner up?" he asked Chloe.
Chloe paused, contemplating, "I must complete my master's degree first. I have yet to overcome the language hurdle.”
"It's okay. You can work at the firm while studying, no pressure," Brayden said, then suddenly asked, "What about him? Have you divorced?"
Chloe shook her head, saying, "Not yet. I didn't want to go to the university he recommended. We've lost touch since I came to this university alone. Divorce is just a matter of time. He never lacks women."
" I spoke to Ronald about Karen's background. She is confirmed to be Sarah's daughter, but Ronald sent her away after the incident. Gordon may have come across her, but Donovan is not acquainted with her. I apologize for the situation. Ronald also holds responsibility for what happened with Amelia, who was greatly mistreated. Your brother and Karen are currently residing in your mother's house. Jacob is feeling very down, and tragically, Karen's child suffered a miscarriage," Brayden informed.
"How did the miscarriage happen?" Chloe asked in surprise.
Chloe had been very unlucky this year, and it was also unfortunate for Jacob.
"I don't know. Jacob said Karen told him that. No one knows the specifics of how it happened," Brayden replied.
Chloe bowed her head and ate her meal slowly, contemplating, 'Perhaps Donovan had someone else take care of it. Donovan was certainly capable of such actions.’
"Let's not talk about this. When will your firm open? I'll invest," Chloe asked Brayden.
"Probably this year. It won't cost much. You can contribute labor shares when the time comes," Brayden said.
Chloe nodded and asked, "Which university are you studying at?"
"Suncrest University," Chloe replied.
Chloe was stunned.
They were at the same university.
