Chapter 679 The Great Philanthropist
"I don't have time today, I won't sign it now. I'm going to the impoverished area with Chloe later, and I'll take this opportunity to go out for a walk. Do you want to come?" Donovan asked Charles, "Come with us."
"Me?"
"Let's go." With that, Donovan stood up, "We'll be back tomorrow, follow us."
Charles didn't think much and followed.
Charles was hesitant about giving the contract to Mountain UAV Company. Charlotte Tech Innovations, although not large in scale, had advanced technology, and the two young and energetic CEOs had many innovative ideas for drones. The documents they submitted showed Charlotte's undeniable ambition. However, to avoid being accused of favoritism, he deliberately rejected Charlotte. He had thought that this might be unfair to Charlotte, but he had no choice.
He even wondered if Donovan had noticed his hesitation, which was why he deliberately didn't sign.
Now, Charles felt even more uneasy.
He followed Donovan.
The driver had already picked up Chloe, Zoey, Paula, Francis, and Jake from home, leaving only Maya and a few other maids at home. Maya wasn't going; she needed to rest at home.
The driver drove from Donovan's house to New East Group, picking up Donovan and Charles, and the group headed south.
Regal County, which wasn't part of Maple Valley, had beautiful scenery. It was both a tourist destination and home to many poor people, with a significant wealth gap. They could help people there, fulfilling Chloe's dream, and also enjoy a bit of tourism.
The business van had enough space for everyone.
Charles kept looking out the window, feeling downcast. Donovan observed him through the rearview mirror. The current Charles was no longer as cheerful and joking as before. Since Donovan was sitting in the front passenger seat, he could also see Chloe. When Chloe occasionally looked up, she could see Donovan through the rearview mirror, and he was looking at her mischievously.
Chloe would slightly lower her head, drink water, look out the window, or take care of the kids.
Francis and Jake were constantly looking at the scenery outside, finding everything very novel.
Paula quietly stared out the window. Her mental state had been improving. She often thought of Fred, but he had long disappeared, and no one knew where he was. Her current life was completely different from her past.
Zoey also looked out the window, imagining the places Andrew had visited.
They arrived at Regal County.
Donovan asked Zoey and the driver to take the kids around while she, Chloe, and Charles went to the school.
Chloe had already checked online. It was a poor school, built with investment from an actor. However, after the school was built, the actor no longer managed it. The school, being a non-profit organization, couldn't afford the expenses, leading to a shortage of resources and many students dropping out.
The principal was very welcoming to Donovan, almost tearful. Donovan was undoubtedly the savior of this school.
"By the way, there's someone in my office waiting to donate to us. Let's go meet her. She has been providing long-term support to our school. Although it's just a drop in the bucket, without her, our school might have closed long ago. You all are such great benefactors," the principal said.
