Chapter 692 Introducing Him to a Job
"Jeffery, get up. Chloe and Jane are here to see you, and so is Mr. Blake," Barbara said softly.
Jeffery had just fallen asleep, but for someone who had served in the military, getting up in the middle of the night for sudden drills was normal. He sat up immediately.
"They came so quickly?" Jeffery remembered Donovan had texted him. He thought they would come tomorrow, not in the middle of the night.
"Yeah."
Thinking about Jane made Jeffery angry. It was Jane who had caused him to lose his virginity, and that sexual encounter was not enjoyable at all.
Jeffery, wearing shorts, put on a tank top as he walked out.
He greeted Donovan, "Why are you here at this hour? Mr. Blake?"
"Just came to see how you're doing. Haven't found a job?" Donovan sat on the sofa, clearly taking the lead in the conversation.
"Still looking, but it's not easy to find one." After saying that, Jeffery sat down. To spite Jane, he specifically told Barbara, "You go back to the room and sleep, honey."
Barbara was stunned by his words, but her heart was sweet. Jeffery's affectionate words were so touching. The word "honey" made Barbara's heart flutter, and she was filled with emotion.
She guessed that Jeffery said it on purpose for Chloe or Jane to hear and nodded, "Okay."
After speaking, Barbara went back to Jeffery's room.
Yes, she went back to Jeffery's room.
Then, Barbara closed the door.
Chloe and Jane stared at Barbara, filled with astonishment, watching as Barbara smiled and closed the door.
Chloe frowned slightly, and Jane clenched her fists, feeling a mix of emotions.
"Haven't found a job yet?" Donovan asked Jeffery, bringing the topic back.
"Not in the mood," Jeffery replied.
Donovan glanced at the room Barbara had gone into. "Are you with her now?"
Jeffery didn't speak, just lowered his head.
Chloe couldn't hold back, she said in a low voice, "Didn't I tell you to stay away from Barbara? Why did you..."
Chloe's words revealed her disappointment in Jeffery.
Jeffery kept his head down, touching his hair, "After all, it's my business."
These words made Chloe's face burn. Jeffery meant that it was his business, and Chloe had no right to interfere. Chloe's righteous tone was out of place.
"I..." Chloe said, clenching her fists again.
"In that case, we're leaving." Jeffery's words also annoyed Donovan, who stood up and left.
"Mr. Blake," Donovan, Chloe, and Jane were at the door when Jeffery called out, "Can you keep this from my mom for now?"
"Okay," Donovan said and then left.
On the way back, Chloe and Jane kept looking out the window, not speaking, both angry, and Jane felt a bit disheartened.
"Chloe, I have a classmate who started an investment company, a startup by a rich second generation. They're hiring now. Can you see if you can introduce Jeffery?" Jane's voice was very low, different from her usual tone. After all, Jeffery being fired was a big deal, and she was a major reason for it. Jane felt very guilty towards Jeffery, so she spoke softly.
"Why should I introduce him to your classmate's company?" Chloe asked.
