Chapter 66: Since she hadn't gotten pregnant, what was there to fear?
Chloe lowered her eyelashes, seemingly feeling a bit wronged. She thought about how he used to call Paisley dozens of times a day and even went overseas to chase after her. Chloe was nothing in comparison.
This time, he stayed in Pearl Peak City for five days and only made one phone call to inquire about her grandpa's condition.
Chloe knew that she couldn't demand too much from this marriage. After all, it was just an agreement and there would be a day when it would end.
Since that's the case, why bother saying "miss him" to make him happy?
"I don't miss you!" Chloe reiterated.
Donovan's face darkened for the second time.
After coming home, Donovan took out all the things he bought for her grandpa, saying he went on a business trip to the southern city.
Chloe thought to herself, "He's just spouting nonsense. We clearly went to Pearl Peak City. Maybe he knows that Grandpa has a bad impression of Paisley, so he didn't mention anything related to her."
He's really considerate!
That night, when they returned to their room, Donovan couldn't wait to have Chloe.
Thinking about what Paisley said that day, Chloe lost interest.
She was nothing more than a tool in a contractual marriage.
And just now, he protected Paisley in front of Grandpa, even going somewhere without letting Grandpa know.
Chloe lost all interest.
"Not happy?" Donovan pressed onto Chloe, whispering in her ear.
His voice was deep and sexy, making Chloe's ears itch, even tickling her heart.
"Don't want to," Chloe said, her brows drooping in the darkness.
Donovan's steady breath blew onto Chloe's face, causing her to flinch.
"Why? Are you really pregnant?" Donovan asked skeptically.
"Come on, there's no way. I just don't feel like it," Chloe replied.
"Well, if you're not pregnant, then what's there to worry about?" Donovan didn't care.
Chloe wasn't cooperative, even a little resistant, which resulted in her waking up late the next day.
Donovan didn't seem to be affected at all; he got up early as usual.
In fact, after washing up and returning to the bedroom to get his watch, he saw Chloe getting up from the bed, stumbling slightly.
He stared at Chloe, smiling cheerfully.
"What are you smiling for? It's all your fault!" Chloe said angrily. "You didn't even wake me up when it's time to go to work."
"I was afraid you wouldn't get enough sleep. After all, only sleeping for three or four hours in a whole night is quite hard on you," Donovan teased her.
"I'll just go back to my dorm at night!"
"Do you dare?"
Chloe had no choice but to get up and get ready.
When she arrived at the office, she was indeed late.
James didn't say anything, wearing a look of wanting to speak but holding back. In the end, he simply coughed.
Chloe had a miscarriage and didn't request leave from him.
He didn't know how to explain it to Mr. Blake and was anxious about it.
People in the office were gossiping again, saying, "Mr. Blake came back yesterday, absence makes the heart grow fonder" and "That's not right, didn't she just have a miscarriage? Doesn't Mr. Blake know? After a miscarriage, you can't have intercourse for a month."
Chloe felt exhausted and disgusted with office gossip but had to force herself to work hard, even though her mind was like mush.
These discussions entered her left ear and left her right ear.
She had long been immune to these office gossips.
Paisley brought a can of chicken soup to Donovan's office.
As she walked in, she had an anxious expression on her face. "Donovan, where is Chloe's office? Your company is so big, I have no idea where she is."
Paisley was an extremely elegant woman and rarely became impatient like this.
"What, you're looking for her?" Donovan asked, surprised.
"Yes, you and her, weren't you expecting a baby? Abortion is really harmful to the body, you know?" Paisley impatiently said, "Quickly tell me, which office is she in?"
Donovan was puzzled. Didn't Chloe always say there was nothing going on?
"Who said she had an abortion?" Donovan furrowed his brow and asked Paisley.
"Don't you know? It's such a big deal, and you don't know?" Paisley's expression was as if she saw an alien.
"I don't know!"
"I recently played a role where I had to be temporarily transferred to another hospital, and I saw Chloe coming out of the obstetrics and gynecology department. Her face was pale, and she looked weak. She was holding a piece of paper. Then, I asked the doctor, and the doctor said she had a miscarriage. The baby was three weeks old." Paisley said, and then she started to cry. "If it were me, I definitely wouldn't have aborted the baby. How could she do this? Abortion is definitely harmful to the body. You bring her these chicken soups."
After saying that, Paisley wiped away her tears and left.
It was as if she didn't want to see this tragedy anymore.
No one doubted Paisley's acting skills in this scene!
Paisley had considered it. Whether Chloe faked the pregnancy for attention or actually got pregnant and aborted the baby, as long as Paisley told the opposite, it would surely arouse Donovan's suspicion.
Sure enough, Donovan became suspicious!
