Chapter 572 She Did It, He Caught Her, She Admitted It
"Engaged to whom?" Chloe was utterly confused. She had been so busy at Emerald Isle these past few days that she hadn't had time to check the news.
"Chloe, do you think I'm an idiot? Hugging and kissing Derek right under my nose, then going to Emerald Isle and doing the same. You have a lover on Aurora Isle and another on Emerald Isle. When you get bored here, you go there, and you even found an excuse to visit your mom."
Chloe was stunned for a moment. No wonder Donovan didn't go. Although Donovan didn't go, he had someone keep an eye on Chloe. So, Donovan knew all about Chloe's whereabouts over there.
Of course, Chloe wasn't so self-righteous as to feel no guilt.
Chloe didn't question Donovan about why he was following her; she had no standing. Until now, Chloe still thought Donovan's marriage was just a lie to deceive her.
"Alright, from today on, besides being the mother of my child, we have nothing to do with each other anymore," Donovan said again. "You can go back to living at the school."
Chloe looked up and her eyes widened as she stared straight at Donovan.
"Don't believe I'm married?" As Donovan said, he pulled a marriage certificate from a box under the TV and tossing it onto the coffee table.
Donovan knew Chloe wouldn't be able to tell if the marriage certificate was real or fake, and at this moment, Chloe didn't have the energy to figure it out.
Chloe stared at the certificate, biting her lower lip tightly, her face pale, her mind blank. She had so much to say to Donovan, but now, she couldn't utter a single word.
Chloe wanted to ask Donovan, "What did I do wrong? What happened that made you do something so outrageous?"
But looking at Donovan's marriage certificate, Chloe felt that nothing mattered anymore. Chloe couldn't quickly accept this.
"Where is Francis? If Cynthia dares to do anything to Francis, I'll confront her with all my might!" Chloe felt both indignant and enraged.
Chloe didn't understand why Donovan had suddenly become so heartless. This time, Chloe left with Donovan's consent.
Besides, it hadn't even been a week. Could Cynthia have used some trick? But no matter what trick Cynthia used, it only showed that Donovan couldn't resist temptation. He actually got married in a fit of anger; had he forgotten how he treated Chloe in Pearl Peak City? Was it impulsiveness, or was he thinking with his lower half?
When Chloe got to her place at Hudson University, she didn't cry; she just sat there in a daze.
Before, Chloe thought that if Donovan found someone new, so be it. But now, her heart felt like a piece had been gouged out.
Logically, Chloe should have had a big fight with Donovan, but she didn't. She couldn't argue about anything. They were already divorced; he was free to marry whomever he wanted.
Then Chloe started drinking. Drunk and disheveled, she felt a mix of resignation and anger.
Since Donovan treated Chloe as someone he could easily betray, why couldn't Chloe betray Donovan?
Chloe thought, 'Is having money so great? Is being a CEO so great?'
[Are you home? I'm coming over.] Jane texted Chloe on WhatsApp.
[I'm home; come on over.] Chloe replied.
Jane's hospital was pretty close to Hudson University. About twenty minutes later, Jane knocked on Chloe's door.
Once inside, Jane looked around Chloe's place.
Jane commented, "Not bad, it's a new place, with two bedrooms, much better than the staff housing at Pearl Peak University. It's more spacious too. I might as well live here from now on." Jane seemed to be in a good mood, probably because she had someone she liked and felt that life was full of hope.
"Sure, stay here." Chloe stared blankly ahead.
"What's wrong?" Jane patted Chloe on the shoulder.
"Did you know Donovan got married?" Chloe's bleary eyes looked up at Jane standing beside her.
Jane was momentarily taken aback. " To you?"
