Chapter 196 Expecting a Baby

Jacob left a comment on Chloe's post.
Jacob: [Chloe, since Mr. Blake has spoken, hurry up and have a baby with him.]
Jacob was a traitor, so Chloe ignored him.
Jacob lay on the sofa, feeling disappointed that Chloe did not respond to his comment.
Karen had just finished her shower and walked over.
"What are you looking at?" Karen asked Jacob.
"Looking at Chloe's social media. Mr. Blake is urging Chloe to have a baby with him. Once she has a child, Chloe's position in the Blake family will be secure, and my status as an uncle will naturally change." Jacob lay on the sofa, legs crossed and indulging in his fantasies.
He even showed Karen Chloe's post.
"Chloe is so dramatic. She must intentionally avoid having a baby with Mr. Blake. She might not want to have a baby, but there are plenty of people willing to give Mr. Blake one." Karen said, thinking of Donovan's luxurious villa and the life she could never have.
"Have a baby with Mr. Blake? Who? You? Don't forget. The child in your belly carries my blood. I won't allow him to call another man dad. No way!" Jacob lightly kicked Karen's belly with his foot, then gave her a kick on her buttocks. "Brayden doesn't fancy you, and Donovan doesn't even spare you a glance. The only person in this world who could fancy you is me. You are an orphan with no family background. Even the only house you own has not been renovated in the six or seven years you owned it. Stop daydreaming about money all the time."
Angered by Jacob's words, Karen immediately threw the comb in her hand at Jacob.
Several bloody scratches immediately appeared on Jacob's face.
Indeed, as Jacob said, Karen's ego was as big as the sky but as fragile as a flimsy piece of paper.
Brayden did not like her, and after what happened between Brayden and Ellie, she lost interest in Brayden. Donovan didn't like her either, not even giving her a second look.
Being pregnant with Jacob's child was somewhat of a last resort, as there was no better man around.
"I'm already pregnant, but you have nothing. I don't know what to do," Karen fiercely barked out. "I'll go for an abortion one of these days. You are just a driver who lives in someone else's house. You're always left wondering how to earn enough money for your next meal. The child would starve if left with you."
"Don't you dare!" Jacob suddenly sat up from the sofa. "Don't you dare to try to have an abortion."
"I will go for an abortion! I am no one's wife, so having a baby will only make others look down on me," Karen said.
Jacob thought for a long time and asked, "How about getting engaged to me?"
"Your family is so poor, and why should I get engaged to you?" At the thought of the thin envelope given by Amelia, containing only $200, Karen got angry.
She had to get married.
The Baker's family had to have given a lot of money.
Karen couldn't help but feel sad at the reminder that both her parents were deceased. There was no one to fight for her.
Jacob touched her shoulder. "Alright, baby. Stop crying. I'm here."
"You're useless," Karen cursed.
"I may be useless, but I have a wealthy brother-in-law. I'll use the engagement as an excuse to see if he'll give me this house. Then, we can sell this house for a few million and buy a smaller place, and the remaining money will be enough for us to live on. Maybe we won't even need to sell it. He might give us something extra." Jacob began fantasizing.
"When should we get engaged?" Upon realizing that getting engaged would allow her to see Donovan, Karen felt relieved.
Moreover, what Jacob said seemed like a good idea.
In her eyes, Donovan was a good man.
"This can't be delayed and must be done as soon as possible. Two weeks! I need to inform my mom. The bride price you ask for is quite high," Jacob said. "She owes me so much for the last few years. Let me see what she'll do. At most, I'll just go to her precious daughter for money!"
Karen wiped away her tears. She felt this might not be the best thing to do as that would change Donovan's impression of her.
However, she was not going to spend the rest of her life with Donovan. At most, Donovan was just as useful to her as a painting on the wall, while money was practical. At that thought, she felt at ease.
"Go call your mom now," Karen urged Jacob.
"It's already midnight. She is asleep. I'll call her in the morning."
The next morning.
Chloe was having breakfast when Amelia's phone rang.
When Amelia received Jacob's call, she honestly felt troubled.
"Mom, I've\s decided to get engaged. However, the bride's family is asking for $100,000 as the bride price. This house isn't mine, so she needs the money for security."
Amelia took a while to come to her senses. "That's a lot."
"She's pregnant with my child. I have no choice."
"Oh!" Amelia was at a loss.
She had planned to negotiate for a lower bride price, but now that they were expecting a baby, things were different.
"Mom, who's calling?" Chloe asked.
"Your brother." Amelia was in turmoil.
"Jacob!" Chloe widened her eyes. "Why is my brother calling you?"
Jacob rarely called Amelia. Whenever he did, it was never good news.
"It's nothing. He's just asking if we have any money to spare. Finish your meal and hurry back to the Blake Residence."
Amelia knew that Jacob called her just to make her tell Chloe about the bride price. He knew Amelia did not even have a single dollar to spare.
However, Amelia did not want to cause trouble for Chloe.
