Chapter 664 A Slap
Jane was stewing in her anger, thinking, 'How could stuff just vanish at the Blake Mansion? She'd been there before, and nothing like this had ever happened. But as soon as Jake showed up, Jeffery's badge went missing? No way Francis would do something like that. It had to be that little kid Jake.'
Jane was already boiling with rage and had no outlet for it. When she saw Chloe coming downstairs, she stormed over, grabbed Jake by the collar, and dragged him down.
She already had a beef with Cynthia, and now she couldn't stand this sneaky-looking Jake even more.
"Chloe, did you know you have a thief in your house? It has to be Jake who swiped it. It's bad enough he stole something, but now I'm getting blamed for it. I really don't get why you adopted him! Have you even thought about what kind of person his mom is?" Jane spat out angrily.
Donovan frowned a bit. Sure, Jake was a handful, but wasn't Jane going a bit too far?
Jane was ticked off because of Jeffery, but she was really crossing the line now!
Jake was bawling and trying to wriggle free from Jane's grip.
Jane, feeling the pain, instinctively tossed Jake onto the carpet.
"Jane!" Chloe snapped, "I won't let you treat a kid like that!"
Jane was taken aback by Chloe's outburst.
"Chloe, I'm doing this for your own good!" Jane protested.
"I said, I won't let you treat a kid like that!"
Jane had just been called a "thief" by Jeffery, and now Chloe was laying into her, making her feel super embarrassed.
Chloe, with her righteous attitude, wanted to slowly turn Jake around. Even though she wasn't Jake's real mom and adopting him wasn't her idea, Chloe felt that since they had taken him in, they should teach him right, not treat him like Jane did.
"Apologize to Jake!" Chloe demanded.
"Chloe, are you nuts? He's a thief, a little thief!" Jane pointed at Jake on the floor and said, "He stole Jeffery's stuff, and now you're blaming me? Why did you adopt him? I'm doing this for your own good!"
Chloe slapped Jane across the face.
The slap left Jane stunned and humiliated.
Jane covered her face, let out a grunt, and stormed out of Donovan's house.
As she left, Chloe realized she had gone too far. After all, Jane was her best friend. In her anger, she had hit her best friend, but Jane was already gone.
Donovan thought the whole thing was totally unnecessary.
Even though Donovan had adopted the kid, he never really thought about raising him. His views were completely opposite to Chloe's. Chloe had just had a major fallout with her best friend over a kid, and he thought it wasn't worth it.
He walked over and placed a comforting hand on Chloe's shoulder. "Calm down."
Jeffery watched Chloe's trembling back from behind.
Jeffery's views were in line with Chloe's. He figured it was probably just a playful kid who took the badge. First, he didn't know Jake well, and second, he thought kids didn't really get much. Jane's actions would make Jake think he was a thief, messing up his future.
Jeffery's impression of Jane took a nosedive.
He wondered where the professional and enthusiastic Dr. Allen had gone.
