Chapter 396 Then What Should I Wear?
Gordon and Clara were in their bedroom. Gordon was hiding in the corner, avoiding Chloe. Clara kept urging him to clear up the misunderstandings.
"What I did to her family wasn't a misunderstanding. It was a crime!" Gordon said, fully aware.
"But you weren't in your right mind. Chloe will forgive you. Donovan has already covered for you. Trust him, and don't let him down," Clara said, stroking Gordon's chest. "Amelia is gone. Stop dwelling on it."
After a long pause, Gordon finally stepped out. When Chloe saw them, her hand trembled, but she still greeted Clara with "Mom" and continued eating. Everyone understood why she didn't call Gordon "Dad", and no one blamed her.
Chloe lost the appetite to eat, and she went upstairs after a few bites. She wanted to change clothes but couldn't find any, as if there were no traces of her life in the house.
"Mad again?" Donovan asked as he came upstairs.
"Where are my clothes?" Chloe asked.
"They were burned."
"Burned?" Chloe frowned but didn't lose her temper. She had just returned and didn't want to start a fight. She had defied Donovan by going abroad, so she understood his anger.
"What am I supposed to wear?" she asked.
"You?" Donovan looked her up and down. "You look best wearing nothing. Leave me a few dozen nude photos this time."
"Get lost!" Chloe snapped.
Donovan sat on the couch, clearly more excited by her words. Chloe wasn't in the same mood. Seeing Gordon and hearing Pamela mention "Kathy" had upset her.
"How long are you staying?" Donovan asked.
"Three to five days. The coursework is intense," Chloe said, packing her luggage.
"Don't get so caught up in your studies that you don't want to come back," he said.
Chloe paused. "You've seen my schedule in Verdania. I'm focused on my studies and have almost no contact with men. Besides, the men from Aurora Isle aren't as good as you, and I don't like the foreigners."
Donovan was pleased with her comment about Aurora Isle men.
"I hear those foreign guys are pretty good in bed," Donovan said suddenly.
Chloe paused. "Have you tried?"
Donovan burst out laughing at her joke.
"Nah, those guys wear cologne that's way too strong for me. I always want to stay away from them," Chloe added.
Donovan was satisfied with her answer. "Will you come back twice a month?"
"It depends. If there's an exam, it might not be possible."
"Aren't you afraid I'll cheat on you?"
"We're divorced. If you find someone more suitable, go for it," Chloe replied.
Donovan chuckled. The more she read, the more knowledgeable she became and the less she cared about him.
"Did you know Sofia got promoted?"
Chloe looked up. "To what position?"
"Project team leader."
Chloe thought for a moment. "Her promotion is limited. With her education level, her future options are also limited."
"Do you want other options?"
"I'm not sure. I just want to control my future and not go with the flow."
Donovan wanted to convince Chloe she didn't need her education and could rely on him, but she easily dismissed the issue.
