Chapter 413 I've Moved On
After putting away the books, Chloe noticed a boy's face by the shelf. It was Jeffery, busy arranging books. Chloe still had tears on her face and didn't want to show weakness in front of a student.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Just making some money. Were you crying, Ms. Baker?" Jeffery replied, still organizing the books.
"No." Chloe dismissed him.
"Ms. Baker, you're five years older than me," Jeffery added.
"Hmm?" Chloe wiped her tears, confused.
"You graduated with a PhD in Finance from Unity College, right?"
"Did your advisor have a meeting with you?" Chloe tried to stay calm.
"You can date me!" Jeffery blurted out.
"What?" Chloe frowned, not understanding.
"Ms. Baker, you don't have a boyfriend, right?" Jeffery asked, looking at her.
Chloe was stunned. Answering "yes" or "no" felt wrong, and she didn't want to respond.
"If you don't have a boyfriend, I'll pursue you. Even if you do, I won't be afraid," Jeffery said confidently.
Chloe finally got what he meant. She wanted to call him "crazy" but held back due to their teacher-student relationship. She picked up Kenneth's works and walked away, saying, "My child is already grown!"
As she left, Jeffery muttered, "Who is she trying to fool?"
Chloe didn't take Jeffery's confession seriously. To her, those college boys were just kids with fleeting interests. She'd heard of teachers dating students, but it was usually male teachers with female students, not the other way around.
Lately, Chloe had been racking her brains, trying to figure out how to skip the Stellar Corp meetings. If she kept attending, she was almost certain she'd run into Donovan. But it was her job, and she'd taken Timothy’s money, so she had to fulfill her end of the bargain.
It was a real headache.
Eventually, before the next meeting, she told Timothy she had many classes and couldn't keep asking for leave. She suggested he record the meeting and show it to her later, promising to write a report. Timothy, knowing she was a university professor, understood and agreed.
Chloe finally felt relieved.
At Donovan's home in Maple Valley, Charles asked, "Donovan, are you going to Pearl Peak City this time? It's a rare opportunity."
Donovan, reading on the couch, replied, "What opportunity? I'm not going."
"Why do you hate her? Can't you just ask her directly? This isn't good for either of you," Charles said anxiously. "She's been gone for three years."
"You know it's been three years," Donovan said reproachfully.
Charles was almost frantic. "If you don't see her this time, you'll have to eventually. Our cooperation with Stellar Corp is long-term."
"You can see her just as well."
"Donovan, why are you being so stubborn about this?"
"Stubborn?" Donovan snorted. "I've moved on."
Charles fell silent.
"Dad, where are you going?" Francis asked, coming back sweaty from outside.
Donovan patted his head. "Tired from playing?"
