Chapter 219 I'm Not Afraid!

After Barbara left, Chloe was overcome with a sudden wave of weakness. The mop slipped from her grasp and clattered to the ground as she collapsed.

It became clear that Donovan was the mastermind behind Jacob's ordeal.

If it weren't for Donovan's manipulation of Jacob, Jacob wouldn't have considered searching for a new home, and Ameli's tragic death would not have been in vain.

Although Jacob did something wrong himself, Donovan did indeed scheme against Jacob.

From the beginning, Chloe felt that something was wrong and uneasy in her heart; everything had signs.

Jacob was the son of his true savior, after all.

If he'd treating Jacob like this now, he shouldn't have given the house and money to Jacob in the first place.

Even when giving money to Jacob, it was only because Paisley was there, and there was no other option, but not with the house! Maybe he no longer wanted to support Jacob.

Or maybe it was because on the day of the engagement, Jacob was somewhat disrespectful to her. But this seems like an extreme reaction.

Chloe covered her face and started crying.

She realized that heading to the police station at this moment would be pointless. Donovan held such power that he would ensure Chloe remained unaware of any actions taken against him, rendering Chloe's efforts futile.

The disparity in strength between them was overwhelming. Chloe's only option was to match his strength.

However, achieving that seemed like a daunting task. She lacked his intelligence and cunning.

Chloe went to the bathroom to wash her face and then sat on the sofa in the living room. She was determined to have a serious conversation with Donovan.

With the sound of the door locking, Donovan was back.

As soon as he entered, Donovan saw her sitting on the sofa.

"Haven't you been out for a walk?" he asked.

"Let's get a divorce," she said.

In the days ahead, she didn't want to remain with him. Perhaps, he might entertain the thought of getting rid of her.

He wouldn't even have to carry it out personally. He could easily distance himself from any involvement.

Just like with the previous incident involving Amelia, he managed to resolve it within a couple of days.

"You've thought about divorce, but Kenneth is still fine." Donovan smiled as if he had anticipated Chloe saying these things.

"It's not that I don't want to be with you. It's that I can't. Whenever I see you, I'm reminded of how Amelia died. I can't be indifferent about it. Moreover, I'm afraid of you," Chloe said, hugging her knees.

"What do you have to be afraid of?" he lit a cigarette.

"Ask the people around you. They're all afraid of you," Chloe retorted.

"After the divorce, will you also need to change jobs? And then go to the South Central accounting firm?" he asked.

The last time Ann approached her, it was to invite her to South Central accounting firm. He knew it in his heart.

"I haven't thought about work yet," Chloe replied.

"Other than divorce, I'll agree to anything you ask for," he said.

"Alright, send me abroad! I want to study abroad," she looked up at him coldly.

Donovan squinted at her and asked, "Which country?"

"Novastar is the best country to study accounting. I want to go to Novastar," Chloe said.

Donovan smiled faintly. "You want to go to Verdania, don't you?"

Chloe stayed silent, feeling that as long as she was far away from him, it didn't matter which country she went to.

"Go to Dreamonia. My parents are in Dreamonia, it's fine!"

"Nope! I'm going to Verdania, and if you try to stop me, we'll get a divorce! Do you understand?" Chloe's voice rose suddenly as she covered her ears, haunted by the memory of Amelia's tragic death, her body drenched in blood.

And living with Donovan every day, she couldn't guarantee she wouldn't kill him.

"Since you want to go, I'll handle the procedures." With that, Donovan left.

Chloe didn't know where he had gone, and she didn't care. Divorce and moving abroad were the two strategies Chloe had recently decided on in her heart.

Divorce appeared to be the most viable choice. If that didn't materialize, she planned to study abroad to become stronger swiftly. It was by acquiring strength that she could recognize her own capabilities and assert herself effectively.

She wouldn't have to act according to his every whim.
