Chapter 653 The Third Target
Chloe was feeling pretty down. Why was there always another woman in the picture?
"I'm hanging up!" she snapped, jealousy dripping from her words.
"Hold on," Donovan chuckled. "I've got something big to tell you. Did you hear Cynthia got arrested?"
Chloe's brow furrowed. She'd been wondering if Donovan was scheming against Cynthia. Now, with Cynthia in cuffs and Donovan chilling in Pearl Peak City without her, was this Donovan's handiwork? Something he pulled off without giving her a heads-up?
"Did you do it?" Chloe asked, staring at Donovan through the video call.
"Chloe, I'm not some all-powerful wizard. It wasn't me," Donovan replied, trying to keep his cool.
Why did Chloe always jump to conclusions like this?
"Not you? How convenient. Last time in the car, I felt something was off. And now, you leave me behind, head to Pearl Peak City, and boom, Cynthia's arrested. Are you trying to play God or something?"
With that, Chloe slammed the call shut.
Why was Chloe always like this?
What kind of impression had Donovan left on her?
Donovan was ticked off too. He tossed his phone onto the bedside table and shut his eyes, trying to chill out.
Images of Chloe's angry face kept popping up in his mind.
How much did she distrust him?
Sure, Donovan had pulled the strings behind the scenes, so he couldn't really defend himself.
But Chloe didn't appreciate his moves!
Donovan tossed and turned all night, sleep eluding him.
The next morning, Charles was the one who got up to whip up breakfast. Just the basics: milk, fried eggs, and bread.
Donovan munched away in silence, not uttering a word.
"Not bad, you can even make breakfast," Charlotte teased Charles.
"No choice. If I end up marrying a lazy wife, I might have to prep her meals even when I'm on a business trip and remind her not to skip meals. Can't have her starving," Charles joked.
Charlotte burst out laughing. "You're too diligent. You might end up with a lazy wife."
"Yeah, maybe."
Last night, Charles had noticed Charlotte was all about her career, not sweating the small stuff. She'd spent the whole night glued to her computer, working on that video, and Charles knew she'd struggle to get up in the morning. Sure enough, she didn't.
So, Charles took the reins and made breakfast.
Charlotte, meanwhile, was in high spirits, like nothing had happened.
Normally, Charles would exchange a glance with Donovan, but Donovan was lost in thought, head down, eating in silence.
"How's the house in Rebecca Residential Community?" Charles asked Charlotte, steering clear of Donovan.
"The house isn't finished yet, so I haven't seen the exact layout. But the area looks promising," Charlotte said. "And Pearl Peak City is set to boom in the future."
"Right? I snagged a few houses there."
Charlotte paused mid-bite. "Really?"
"Yeah. You can count on the quality of our New East Group houses. Thinking of buying one? If you do, I'll hook you up with a 30% discount. And tell your relatives too," Charles said, half-joking, half-serious.
"Such a big discount?" Charlotte was pretty surprised.
"Only for you. Didn't you shoot the promo video for us?" Charles said.
Charles knew this was Donovan's third target. His ultimate goal was Charlotte's dad, Orion Rose. Donovan had now laid the houses out for Charlotte. What came next was up to Charles.
Having Charles chase after Charlotte was definitely the right move.
