Chapter 526 Want to Hear It?

"Ann was talking to me about her stories with James, seeking my advice," Chloe said, her gaze drifting back to her phone.

Ann: [Is Mr. Blake with you?]

Chloe: [Yes.]

Ann: [Pass the phone to Mr. Blake. I want him to talk to James.]

Chloe thought, ' This isn't a good idea. Even though James used to work for Donovan, that was all in the past. How could Donovan get involved in James's affairs again? Besides, it was Donovan who sent James to prison. James must hate Donovan by now.'

Donovan saw Chloe and asked, "What are you spacing out for ?"

"Ann sent me a message." Chloe said while drying her hair.

Maybe they had just been intimate, as Chloe could sense the lingering tension in the air and her own desire for another round.

"Who?" Donovan frowned slightly, clearly failing to recall who Ann was at first. Then he asked, "What's up with her?"

"Do you remember James? Ann says James is clinging to her now, not just in bed but also living in her house. Ann wants you to talk to James." Chloe said, raising her phone slightly, as if to ask whether Donovan wanted to talk to Ann.

"That's easy. Tell Ann to find a new place to live." Donovan said, sitting on the couch and rubbing his temples. "Clinging after sex, that's a reason that I hear at the first time. I've slept with you so many times, have I clung to you?"

Chloe rolled her eyes at him. "But wouldn't that mean giving Ann's house to James?"

"Why are you so worried?" Donovan looked up at her. "If James stays there long enough, he'll get bored. It's up to Ann. James is that kind of person."

Donovan crossed his legs leaving the rest unsaid, as if he held James in contempt.

Chloe was pondering the feasibility of this idea and leaned in, asking, "What kind of person is James?"

Donovan glanced at Chloe. "You worked for him. You know what kind of person he is. Why ask me? Tell Ann to be cautious. I can't advise on this. The more I intervene, the more scheming James will get. I'll pretend I don't know."

Chloe carefully considered Donovan's words, which seemed to make sense. "But if James is that kind of person, why did you employ him back then? Wasn't James the one who helped you go through the toughest times?"

Donovan suddenly seemed a bit wary. "Do you want to know?"

"Of course." Chloe replied, hugging a pillow and sitting comfortably on the bed, her long eyelashes fluttering as she curiously stared at Donovan.

Chloe realized that Donovan was like a book she could never fully understand. With age, , he seemed even more inscrutable.

"At the time, we needed to acquire a piece of land. James's father-in-law was in charge of that. I gave James such a good job opportunity, and his father-in-law naturally understood my intentions." Donovan said, watching Chloe's reaction.

Sure enough, Chloe was very surprised. Donovan always had a purpose behind his actions.

"And then?" Chloe asked.

"Then, James's abilities didn't match his ambitions. He embezzled funds. When I dealt with him, his father-in-law had just passed away. Meanwhile, Charles had just finished his training on Wall Street," Donovan said calmly.

"So, you had planned to bring Charles here all along? Then why bother with the recruitment?" Chloe looked at him with wide eyes.

Donovan chuckled. "Recruitment is also a form of publicity, a live advertisement."
