Chapter 333 Aren't You Worrying a Bit Too Much?
Chloe felt time passed very slowly at home.
Donovan kept checking the clock while working.
They had never felt time drag on like this before.
It wasn't until 6:30 PM that Donovan finished work and went home.
Chloe was the one who opened the door for him.
"You're back?" Chloe's eyes sparkled.
"Yeah." Donovan patted Chloe's head, changed his shoes at the entrance, went inside, and had dinner.
In the past, Maya never felt out of place, but this time, she just wanted to find a place to hide.
She figured that if she weren't around, these two would have kissed already.
Maya used to work as an editor for a magazine. Later, when the magazine industry declined and her husband had to transfer to work at the oil field in Maple Valley, she followed him there. She wanted to find a new job, but with the decline of print media and her son in school, she decided to stay home for a few years. It wasn't until her son started high school that she began looking for work again. Maya loved cooking, was neat and efficient, and didn't talk much. She had the demeanor of an intellectual, which Donovan really appreciated. She had been working for the Blake family for several years.
She understood the emotions between men and women very well.
"Have some fish." Donovan served Chloe some fish.
"Thanks, you worked hard today, you should eat more too." Chloe also served him some food.
They acted as if no one else was around.
Maya sat there, feeling her face flush.
Donovan and Chloe went to their bedroom early.
As soon as they entered, he pinned Chloe against the door and kissed her.
They had never felt this way before, where a short amount of time felt like an eternity, filled with intense longing and nostalgia.
He felt miserable if he didn't see her for even a moment.
Chloe looked around the house and was easily reminded of him. Thinking about how he had chosen, touched, and used these pieces of furniture made the house feel very dear to her.
"Did you miss me?" Donovan whispered in Chloe's ear.
"Yeah, a lot. Am I being too clingy?"
Donovan pulled Chloe to the bed and kissed her again.
In bed, Donovan caressed Chloe's belly.
"Babies, bond with your daddy," Chloe said to her belly, lying on her side.
These words warmed Donovan's heart.
The next morning, when Chloe woke up, Donovan was already gone.
Chloe frowned slightly and thought to herself, 'Didn't he say we would go to the office together today? Why did he leave first?'
Just as she was wondering, Donovan came out of the bathroom, still in his loungewear.
"Sleep a bit more, we'll go to the office together later."
Seeing him again, Chloe showed a bright smile. "I can't sleep anymore."
Thinking about not having to endure a whole day of longing, Chloe felt very happy.
Donovan went back into the bathroom.
Chloe grabbed his pillow, hugged it to her chest, and smelled his scent.
Maybe that was what being in love was like.
Unfortunately, Donovan saw her greedily holding the pillow.
"What's this? You have the real person here but still need the pillow?" Donovan teased Chloe while changing out of his loungewear and into a suit.
"You're so boring, exposing my thoughts like that?" Chloe muttered.
After that, Chloe got up to wash and change.
By the time they left, it was almost nine o'clock.
"Isn't it late already?" Chloe asked worriedly from the back seat.
"Aren't you worrying a bit too much?" Donovan looked at her worried face in the rearview mirror.
"Yeah, I guess."
Chloe thought, 'He's the boss. Even if he's late, he can go straight to his office. Who can say anything?'
When they got to the audit department's office, Victoria asked Chloe, "Chloe, did you handle the accounts for Elevate Structures Group last year?"
"Yes, why?"
"They need a two-year comparison of the accounts. Mr. Lewis from Elevate Structures Group said you did it for them when you were at First Accounting Firm, so you would know. But I think something's off about this."
Victoria felt something was off, and so did Chloe.
