Chapter 410 Her Complicated Thoughts

The financial accounting theory class for finance grad students was only once a week. Chloe, as an assistant advisor, was juggling her grad students and her thesis, so she was super busy.

One day, her student Isabel Robinson asked, "Ms. Baker, there's a basketball game this afternoon. It's the Pearl Peak City university league. Are you going?"

"I have a meeting this afternoon. You guys go ahead," Chloe replied.

"I'll save a ticket for you. If you come back early, you can watch," Isabel offered.

"Okay," Chloe said.

That afternoon, Chloe had an investment meeting at Stellar Corp to discuss investment policies and plans with their partners. She didn't know who the partners were because Stellar Corp hadn't given her the details yet.

She changed into a white blouse and skirt and headed to the meeting room.

"Ms. Baker, we're co-investing with New East Group. Both sides take this seriously. We didn't inform you earlier because it was confidential. The materials are on the table," Timothy, who was leading the meeting, told her.

Chloe was seated just one person away from Timothy.

Her mind buzzed, and she heard nothing. Yet, "New East Group" pierced through the noise with crystal clarity.

She had left partly because of her disappointment in Donovan and to ensure Francis's well-being. If leaving brought her peace and kept Francis healthy, it was worth it. But now, New East Group was partnering with Stellar Corp.

She was itching to ask who from New East Group was attending the meeting. Yet, she knew that such a question would be inappropriate in Timothy's eyes.

So, she forced herself to focus on the investment materials, her palms sweating with nervousness.

As Chloe fidgeted, her peripheral vision caught Timothy jumping to his feet with urgency, arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture, indicating that someone had just arrived at the door.

"Mr. Wilson, you're here. Please have a seat," Timothy said.

"Mr. Reed, hello," another voice responded.

Chloe's seat faced away from the door, so she couldn't see who had just entered. However, from the voice and the mention of "Mr. Wilson," it was clear to her that Charles, the CFO, had arrived to discuss investment matters. Given the context, his presence was entirely expected.

Charles walked to the other end of the table and hadn't seen Chloe yet.

"Mr. Wilson, let me introduce my team. This is our vice president," Timothy said.

Chloe pretended to look through the materials but was flustered inside. Charles noticed her and was surprised.

"This is our new independent director, Chloe Baker," Timothy introduced her.

Chloe felt embarrassed but stayed calm and nodded at Charles. Charles was stunned and missed a few sentences as Timothy continued.

They moved on to discussing investment topics. People from various departments presented their PPTs, and everyone discussed different investment possibilities. Charles listened quietly, occasionally glancing at Chloe.

After an entire afternoon of meetings, no final decision was made.

"Thank you all for your hard work. I'll report today's discussion to Mr. Blake. Maybe next time, we'll come together," Charles said, glancing at Chloe when he mentioned Donovan.

Chloe kept her eyes on the materials, but hearing "Mr. Blake" stirred her emotions. She didn't want him to know anything about her, but the world was too small.

After the meeting, Charles said goodbye and left.

Chloe had expected him to pull her aside for a quick chat, but he didn't.

Maybe it was due to their professional relationship, making it inconvenient for Charles to let Timothy know that he and Chloe had known each other before. Or maybe it was something else.

Either way, Chloe's mind was a mess, and she was clueless about what was going on.
