Chapter 259 Fear of Provoking Him Again
Chloe really didn't understand Donovan's intentions. She didn't know what to say and what not to say.
Donovan went to the living room.
Chloe called Brayden into her bedroom.
Brayden's gaze fell on the bed.
In the past, Chloe's bedroom had only one pillow, but now there were two pillows, and on the other side, there was a human-shaped figure. It was self-evident who it was.
Sure enough, they were in bed again.
"Happy New Year, boss," Chloe said as she gathered her long hair to tie it up.
Her hair had grown long again.
Brayden forced a stiff smile, "Happy New Year, Chloe. I went to church with my mom, and she gave you a cross to bless you and the children with peace."
After speaking, Brayden took out a cross.
Chloe was very surprised and found it beautiful.
She hadn't been to church much and didn't know there were such exquisite things in the church.
"Yeah, Betty specifically gave it to you. She's a Christian. Shall I put it on you?" Brayden asked.
Since becoming pregnant, Chloe had become very superstitious and took these "blessings for the child's safety" very seriously.
"Sure," Chloe said.
"Don't take it off once you put it on. Otherwise, it's useless," Brayden said.
Chloe was surprised, "Why didn't you say that earlier?"
He said, "If I had said it earlier, you wouldn't have worn it."
If Brayden had said it earlier, Chloe would have had to consider it. After all, she now lived with Donovan. Wearing this would be too obvious. If he saw it, it might provoke him again.
"I have something important to tell you today," Brayden said, "Mr. Lewis from the Elevate Structures Group, the one you contacted last time, told me that they are ready to sign a three-year contract with us, and for these three years, they have specified you. Chloe, it seems like you've done a great job with your accounts."
Chloe was surprised again.
"What's wrong, don't you want to?" Brayden asked her.
After thinking for a moment, Chloe told Brayden about her application to Suncrest University for graduate studies.
"If he specifically names me in the contract and I go to study for a master's degree, I'm afraid it will constitute a breach of contract and cause unnecessary trouble for the firm," Chloe worriedly told Brayden.
"Are you going to pursue a postgraduate degree? No one looks down on your undergraduate qualifications; your abilities speak for themselves," Brayden said to Chloe.
Brayden thought that Chloe, who was about to become a mother, had probably given up on studying.
But obviously, "education" had become her obsession.
"Others are others. I lack confidence in myself," Chloe said.
He asked, "Have you received an offer yet?"
Chloe frowned slightly, "Not yet."
Brayden said, "Don't worry. Suncrest University usually takes one to four months to reply. It's possible."
Chloe felt relieved and nodded.
"Chloe, I really admire you, you know?" Brayden looked at Chloe's youthful face, "You never give up on your dreams."
Chloe just smiled.
"Should I tell Mr. Lewis about your situation and let him decide?" Brayden asked Chloe.
Chloe nodded, "Okay."
Brayden chatted with Chloe for a while.
"It's New Year's Day today. Don't you plan to go out for a walk today? I'll accompany you," Brayden said.
At first, Chloe was happy to hear this, but then her face fell. "Maya is back home. I can't go out alone. He probably won't allow it."
"In that case, should I leave?" Brayden walked to the door of Chloe's bedroom and said, "Don't miss me."
Chloe thought to herself, 'Brayden said this on purpose for Donovan to hear.'
When Chloe walked out of the bedroom, she saw Donovan watching TV in the living room, and his expression changed.
Chloe escorted Brayden to the door and then returned to her bedroom.
She was afraid of Donovan and avoided contact with him, so she stayed in the bedroom studying, chatting with classmates on WhatsApp, and watching dramas.
