Chapter 372 Who Exactly Did They Offend?

At Maple Valley, on the set of "The First Hotel," Barbara unexpectedly snagged the role of Cheryl Campbell, the main female antagonist. Cheryl was seductive, manipulative, and ruthless, always out to suppress the protagonist. Despite her lowly background, her actions had a forgivable reason. It was a standout role that could either win fans or draw heavy criticism.

Barbara saw the potential in Cheryl. This was her best role yet, and she silently vowed to nail it. She felt a great connection with the crew—they even sent a car to pick her up. Though the good luck seemed surreal, maybe it was finally her time to shine after years of hard work.

Besides this show, she was also filming "Speak Your Secrets" with Carol. With Paisley being suppressed by Donovan and no hope of a comeback, it was the perfect time for Barbara to make her mark.

After they wrapped up the filming that day, the producer told her someone was looking for her. She went to the prop room behind the set and saw a person in a black suit standing there. It was extremely eerie and terrifying.

"Who are you?" Barbara asked, a bit scared.

"Who I am isn't important. There's something I need you to do," the mysterious person said.

"Why me?" Barbara asked, suspiciously. Also, she really wanted to know how much they were paying.

She was juggling two shows and had just received a $100,000 paycheck. She wanted to buy a house in Maple Valley but was still short on cash.

"Why you?" The person in the black suit laughed coldly. "Do you think you got this role by chance? Many want this role, but you have no education, no connections, and no fans."

Barbara's heart sank. She thought it was her big break. No wonder the crew sent a car for her audition. The good luck had a price tag she hadn't noticed.

"What do you want me to do?" she asked warily.

"I want a photo of Donovan and Janet in an intimate scene. Whether real or fake, it must be convincing. Send it to the news media yourself."

"Who is Janet?" Barbara asked.

"The woman you saw with Donovan the day you came for the audition," the person in the black suit replied.

Barbara gasped. They knew she had taken the photo. "Can't you do this yourself?" she nervously laughed.

The person in the black suit just gave her a cold smile. Barbara understood why and broke out in a cold sweat. They were making her do it so Donovan's revenge would be directed at her. Donovan was powerful, and Barbara would be in great danger. Chloe had a long-standing grudge against her, so it wasn't surprising they approached her.

"Going up against Donovan is risky!" Barbara said, taking a gamble. She knew she couldn't shake this off, so she asked for more in return.

"Within three years, we'll make you a popular star and give you a house in Maple Valley."

Barbara's expression softened. "Deal! But won't Janet mind? What if she seeks revenge on me?"

"That's not your concern. Just do what you need to do!"

There didn't seem any room left for discussion, so Barbara had to shut up. As she was about to leave, she wanted to ask if they were behind her losing the role in "The Aristocrats" and almost getting acid thrown on her. But she knew they wouldn't answer, so she didn't ask and left.

Chloe being retaliated against pleased her, but she was puzzled, 'Who exactly did Chloe or her original family offend?'
