Chapter 596 Chloe's Husband
Donovan glanced at his watch; it was twelve o'clock.
He checked the contents of Chloe's fridge. There were fish, shrimp, and several crabs, along with fresh seasonal vegetables. It was much more stocked than when Chloe was alone at Pearl Peak University.
Donovan was slightly taken aback. Crabs? They looked very fresh, only a few days old.
He thought for a moment, then brought the crabs to Paula, "How about these for lunch?"
"Let's change it up," Paula said.
"Why?"
"We just had them last night." Paula's eyes looked a bit aggrieved as she glanced up at Donovan, as if to say: Why are we having this again?
"Did Chloe eat them too?" Donovan asked again.
Paula nodded, "Yeah. She loves them."
Donovan frowned slightly but said nothing and went to the kitchen to cook.
Donovan rolled up his sleeves to his elbows, chopping, washing, and stir-frying vegetables in one smooth motion.
He made a borscht, a spicy lettuce dish, and salt and pepper shrimp.
As Donovan ate, he thought: Chloe wants to deceive him? How bold.
She acts so convincingly!
She had Donovan completely fooled!
If it weren't for Chloe relying on Donovan's affection for her, would she dare to act so spoiled in front of him?
Donovan wouldn't let her get away with it. Just wait until Chloe comes back; Donovan would deal with her!
Now Chloe had learned such tricks too!
After finishing the meal, Donovan went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
There was a knock on the door.
Donovan was washing dishes in the kitchen and didn't hear it.
It was Paula who opened the door.
Seeing it was someone she had met yesterday, Paula felt slightly relieved and let Zoey in.
"How are you?" Zoey put down her bag and asked Paula.
"I'm okay."
Zoey heard the sound of water from the bathroom and saw a tall figure moving behind the frosted glass door. She didn't know who it was and opened the glass door.
Donovan heard the glass door open, turned off the faucet, and looked back.
He saw Zoey.
"David?" Zoey still remembered this man who had once visited her home and said his last name was Thomas.
Donovan frowned slightly, thinking: So Chloe's nanny is actually Zoey.
"He's Chloe's man," Paula explained to Zoey, thinking she didn't know Donovan.
"Here?" Donovan spoke to Zoey in a businesslike tone.
Hearing "Chloe's man," Zoey was slightly taken aback and silently repeated: Chloe's man.
Zoey had thought that all these years, Chloe didn't have a boyfriend and was considering encouraging her to open up and find someone new, given how much time had passed.
It seemed she had been wishfully thinking on Andrew's behalf.
Donovan, with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, exuded masculinity. In both appearance and demeanor, he was far superior to Andrew.
Chloe had found such a good husband; Zoey should be happy for her.
"So, you're Chloe's boyfriend," Zoey said.
"Husband," Donovan corrected, turning back to finish washing the dishes. "I'm afraid Paula might be scared if I leave, so I need to stay with her until Chloe returns. You get yourself familiar with the place."
"Alright, sure," Zoey said.
Zoey and Paula sat on the couch.
After finishing the dishes, Donovan came out of the kitchen and sat on the couch.
He glanced at his watch, checking how much longer until Chloe returned!
Pregnant, as if she could come up with that!
Zoey took a good look at Paula and then said, "You look a lot like a movie star from our younger days."
Paula looked a bit confused. Talking about the past gave her a headache. She frowned slightly and said nothing.
