Chapter 195 When Will You Give Me a Child?
Chloe sighed.
If she was going to see the child, she had to buy something for him.
After much thought, Chloe decided to be generous and buy a gift for the child.
On Saturday afternoon, Chloe went to the mall alone and spent $500 to buy a gift for Sofia's nephew.
It was her first time meeting a child, so she didn't want to be stingy.
Chloe secretly calculated the money in her pocket and realized that there wasn't much of her salary left for the month.
Just when she was secretly worried over her bank balance, she suddenly received a notification that someone had transferred $5,000 to her account.
It was definitely not Donovan.
Someone was helping her when Chloe was short on cash.
Chloe was afraid it would be a trap from someone like Paisley, so she did not dare to touch it.
However, she was still confused as she didn't know who it was.
She and Sofia agreed to take a taxi together to JN Community, the neighborhood where Logan lived.
As they walked into the neighborhood, Chloe spotted a family moving in with one of the family members saying, "I just paid the rent. It's $5,000 a month. I heard that it was previously occupied by the famous star Paisley."
Chloe frowned her brows. $5,000 and Paisley.
She suddenly remembered that Donovan had asked Paisley to move out of JN Community the other day.
Could it be that Donovan had rented out the house and transferred the rent to Chloe?
After thinking about it, Chloe sent a message to Donovan.
Chloe: [The money came from you.]
Donovan: [For the miscarriage or something else.]
Chloe thought to herself, 'What is he talking about?'
Chloe: [The rent at JN Community. Did you ask the rent to be transferred to me?]
Donovan: [Yes, it's just pocket change anyway.]
Chloe thought to herself, 'Maybe Donovan and I have different ideas about what "pocket change" was.
Upon finding out that the $5,000 was not part of a scheme, Chloe felt relieved.
Sofia's nephew was really cute and soft, always smiling and making Chloe's heart flutter. He smelled so good.
Chloe gave the gift to Sofia's sister.
Sofia's sister refused to accept it, saying it was too valuable.
"Just take it. She is Donovan's wife after all," Sofia said, accepting Chloe's gift on behalf of her sister.
Chloe bitterly smiled as she internally sighed, thinking, 'I'm not the kind of rich person you think I am.'
After taking a photo of the baby as well as a photo of herself holding the baby, she uploaded the photos to her social media.
[So cute] was the caption for the photos.
At 5.00 p.m., Chloe parted ways with Sofia and went to her mother's house.
Amelia specially brought Chloe a cup of coffee to drink.
Chloe felt conflicted and regretful upon seeing Amelia once more.
"Mom," Chloe greeted.
"Good girl." Amelia stroked Chloe's hair. "Please don't resent me."
"Mom, I don't resent you. There's nothing for me to resent you for." Tears welled up in Chloe's eyes as she spoke.
She only resented her biological mother for not wanting her.
Amelia was great, but she was not Chloe's biological mother.
"How have you been getting along with Donovan?" Amelia asked when Chloe took a sip of the coffee.
"Pretty good. I gave him the money, so I don't feel so burdened. However, he's starting a factory again. Also, the house in JN Community has been rented out. It's the one Paisley used to live in. He also had the rent paid to me." Chloe continued to enjoy her coffee while thoroughly briefing Amelia.
Amelia sighed and stroked Chloe's hair once more. "You're such a foolish child. Still, sometimes being a little foolish leads to good luck."
"Mom, I'm not foolish. I'm so smart that I haven't failed a single course as an auditor," Chloe solemnly retorted.
Amelia burst into laughter. "Those who wonder how they were considered foolish would never be shrewd."
After saying that, Amelia and Layla laughed.
Amelia knew very well that Donovan was doing this to blur the financial boundaries between him and Chloe, making it harder to divorce in the future. If they were to divorce, he would never leave Chloe with nothing.
Donovan's intentions were clear to Amelia, even if Chloe did not understand them.
Amelia also realized that Donovan treated Chloe well. It made her hope that Chloe could stay by his side forever so that he would never forget his initial intentions.
Her fear was that wealthy people were often schemers.
"Mom, pour me another cup." Chloe finished her coffee and handed the cup to Amelia.
"Honestly, you," Amelia scolded.
Chloe watched Amelia walk into the kitchen and could not help but cry. Home was where Amelia was.
"By the way, Mom, Donovan's parents are coming to Maple Valley. I called them a few days ago," Chloe said.
"Where are they from?" Amelia furrowed her brows, finding it strange that she had never heard Chloe mention Donovan's parents.
"It seems they were in Dreamonia."
"Why does Donovan never mention them?" Amelia asked. "They're are family."
Chloe was also puzzled. "I don't know the specifics, but it seems like Donovan doesn't like his parents."
Amelia sighed. "Every family has its own difficulties."
After finishing her coffee, Chloe went to bed.
She picked up her phone and found over 80 notifications. Most of her colleagues had liked her photos, but few interacted with her. After all, as Donovan's wife, no one dared to be casual with her.
A few of her classmates commented on the photos.
Classmate: [Chloe, is this your child?]
Chloe replied to them one by one.
Chloe: [He's not mine. This is Sofia's sister's child.]
Charles: [Chloe, when did you have a child with Donovan?]
Chloe: [Donovan isn't in a rush, but you are.]
Since most people in the company had Charles on WhatsApp, they could all see the comments. Sofia also messaged Chloe.
Sofia: [Don't just admire other people's children. Have one of your own.]
Before going to sleep, Chloe picked up her phone and saw that Donovan had commented on her post. He could see both Charles and Sofia's comments.
Charles: [So, when are you going to have a child with me?]
Now, all her colleagues in the company could see the comment.
Charles replied in a playful manner.
Charles: [Donovan is really in a hurry.]
Chloe quickly messaged Donovan: [You're not serious, are you?]
Donovan didn't reply.
Paisley saw Chloe's post and gritted her teeth.
Chloe and Donovan were at the point in their relationship where they were fighting over when to have a child.
Donovan was even urging Chloe to have a child.
He was urging Chloe to have his child while on the other day, he just hit Paisley that day.
She ordered Barbara to quickly find a way to get Chloe and Donovan divorced!
Barbara felt immense pressure.
