Chapter 125 Are You Worried About Him?
Donovan lit a cigarette downstairs. He rarely smoked in the living room because of his grandfather's illness.
But now, he was very upset, surrounded by smoke.
When he saw his grandfather come out of the bedroom, Donovan called out, "Grandpa."
He extinguished the cigarette butt in the ashtray.
"Did you just have an argument with Chloe? Why was there so much noise upstairs?" his grandfather asked. "You should go easy on her. She's younger than you."
"I know, Grandpa," Donovan said. "I'll stay outside for a few days. Take care, Grandpa."
After saying that, Donovan picked up his car keys and walked out of the house.
"Donovan!" his grandfather called from behind him.
Chloe woke up at 2 o'clock in the middle of the night, feeling sore all over. When she looked around, Donovan wasn’t beside her.
She went downstairs after putting on her pajamas. The living room was quiet. He wasn't there. In his garage, the car he usually drove was missing.
This was the first time he had left home since they had gotten married .
Chloe thought about sending him a message, but when she remembered what had happened yesterday afternoon, she put her phone down.
He was probably in Paisley's bed.
Chloe took a deep breath and closed her eyes, but couldn't sleep well for the rest of the night. Her heart ached, and she felt cold whenever she thought of the scene from yesterday afternoon.
The next day, Donovan still wasn’t at the breakfast table after Chloe woke up.
She wanted to ask Grandfather and Maya Hall where Donovan had gone, but couldn't bring herself to do so. She just sat there, her emotions fluctuating.
"Did you have a fight with Donovan yesterday, Chloe?" Grandfather asked.
Chloe lowered her head and drank her soup. She nodded slightly.
"Good for you. You finally kicked him out this time," Grandfather said with a smile. "You can't let him bully you all the time."
In the face of Grandpa's teasing, Chloe couldn't come up with a response.
Chloe didn't go anywhere today. She stayed at home to tidy up her clothes and wash the sheets. Suddenly, she realized that without him, it seemed like there were a lot fewer people in the house. Without him, the bed seemed even bigger.
The next day, Chloe went to work in the auditing department.
Mario Torres assigned Chloe a position and made her an assistant to Victoria Hawkins, a female auditor in her forties.
Only Chloe and Victoria Hawkins were in that office. Victoria Hawkins was a career-oriented woman, polite and meticulous in her work. She constantly gave Chloe advice about work, but had no interest in gossip.
Chloe called Victoria Hawkins "Victoria."
The auditing department was on the top floor, like a world of its own. Nothing could disturb them here, and the people here had no interest in external gossip, as they were all busy with their own affairs.
This was the first time Chloe wanted to hear gossip about Donovan, but she didn’t hear anything at all.
Chloe didn't know if Donovan had come to work today.
During lunch, she went to the spicy hot pot restaurant with Sofia.
"Do you know if Donovan came to work today?" Chloe asked Sofia.
Sofia asked Chloe in surprise, "Do you still call him Donovan? You're his wife, don't you know if he came to work or not?"
Chloe couldn't even eat the spicy hot pot anymore. She couldn't enjoy the food. Where on earth had he gone?
Chloe then told Sofia about yesterday's incident exactly as it happened. Donovan had somehow known that she had delivered a package to Brayden, who had given her chocolates. When she got back home, he tore up all of Chloe's books and they had a big fight before he left.
Chloe deliberately omitted the incidents of him being forceful toward her and slapping her. She didn't mention them.
"People say that couples quarrel, but it's important to be able to resolve their differences promptly. You two will reconcile soon, just like before," Sofia teased Chloe.
"Don't say that." Chloe felt frustrated. "I can’t believe you’re still making jokes."
They had reconciled "soon," but it wasn't pleasant. He had exerted dominance and Chloe had even slapped him. She didn't want to look back on it.
"So are you worried about him now?" Sofia asked.
"I suspect he's sleeping in Paisley's bed," Chloe said, full of resentment.
She felt that if Donovan slept in Paisley's bed again, Paisley would definitely show off and maybe even hint at it on social media, trying to provoke Chloe.
Chloe paid special attention to Paisley's social media feed today, but there was nothing particularly noteworthy. She couldn't ask Paisley about this either. How would Paisley react if she knew Donovan had run away from home?
"Shall we go to the downtown area for a walk in the afternoon?" Sofia asked Chloe.
Chloe nodded.
