Chapter 592: An Acquaintance
The next day, they woke up at ten and went to the cafeteria together for a meal.
At this time, the students were all in class, so the cafeteria was almost empty.
While they were eating, Chloe suddenly looked up and greeted a female teacher who was walking towards them.
"Thea, you haven't eaten either?" Chloe said.
Thea Ellis was Chloe's former teacher.
"Yeah, I was busy this morning gathering info about our class from ten years ago. The students are planning a 'Ten-Year School Entry Anniversary.' The class president originally wanted to wait three more years for a ten-year graduation celebration, but nobody wanted to wait that long. So, they asked me to compile the details."
"Chloe, I don't need to includer yours. A former graduate, now a graduate advisor—has the school assigned you any grad students to mentor?" Thea said, holding a piece of paper.
Chloe had heard about this because she was at the school, so she wasn't as eager as her classmates who were scattered in other places.
Besides, Donovan getting married had been a big distraction for her lately.
"Not yet. Maybe in a while." Chloe reolied.
Seeing Donovan next to Chloe, Thea asked, "And who is this?"
"This is my boss. He came to the school today to discuss some work matters with me," Chloe said seriously.
Donovan didn't say anything.
"Let me take a look at our classmates' information." Chloe took the paper from Thea's hand.
The paper listed the classmates' names, phone numbers, addresses, and current companies and positions.
Class reunions were definitely a chance for the successful ones to show off, while those who weren't doing so great usually skipped them.
Chloe had attended Donovan's class reunions before, so she wasn't very interested.
"By the way, Chloe, I heard your boyfriend back then had an accident while he was volunteering as a teacher, right?" Thea suddenly asked.
Chloe paused.
She had almost forgotten about Andrew, but Thea's sudden mention of him made Chloe feel uneasy.
"Yes." Chloe just nodded and continued eating.
"We all thought that with his steady nature, you two would get married right after graduation. No one expected... well, life sure is unpredictable." Thea shook her head.
Chloe felt bad and didn't say anything more.
The name "Andrew" had long lost its sting for Donovan. Even though it still made him uncomfortable, Donovan was now the one comforting Chloe. Even if he felt uneasy, he wouldn't show it.
Chloe thought: 'I wonder how Zoey is doing now. She should be retired by now. If she could take care of Paula, that would be great. She's a familiar face, and I wouldn't have to worry about her mistreating Paula. Plus, Zoey is a great cook.'
With this thought in mind, Chloe wanted to act quickly. After all, she had classes to attend, and Paula couldn't be left alone for even a moment.
Chloe's aunt Pamela hadn't gotten the password yet, and there was no guarantee she wouldn't kidnap Paula.
Pamela was definitely capable of such a thing, so she needed to find a reliable person to stay with Paula.
After thinking it over, Chloe decided to go see Zoey and discuss the matter.
"Are you leaving now?" Chloe asked Donovan after they finished eating.
"Do you want me to leave?" Donovan looked up, his gaze both concerned and ambiguous.
"Yes, I want to take my mom for a walk. She gets scared if there's a stranger around."
Donovan gave Chloe a deep look and left.
