Chapter 392 Should I Be Damned
Chloe was a good cook, but the fridge was almost empty. All she found were instant noodles, two eggs, and some greens. She washed the greens, boiled the eggs, cooked the noodles, and added the greens at the end. The poached eggs turned out pretty nice this time.
When Chloe brought the bowl and fork into the room, Donovan was just putting on his pants and fastening his belt, his upper body bare. Every time Chloe saw his tanned skin, her heart raced, and she felt too shy to look.
"There's only one bowl of noodles. Make do with it," Chloe said, placing the noodles on her desk. The apartment had a living room, but Chloe and Wade never used it. They'd go straight to their bedrooms, leaving the living room almost untouched.
Donovan sat at one end of the desk while Chloe sat in the middle and resumed studying. Chloe's gaze kept drifting towards Donovan as he ate. He, on the other hand, kept glancing at the books Chloe was reading. Donovan noticed many of Chloe's books had library labels and were the same titles Brayden mentioned on Facebook. She read every book Brayden recommended.
"Do you still keep a diary?" Donovan asked while eating noodles and watching Chloe take notes.
"Yeah," Chloe said, resting her pen on her chin. "Life in Verdania is pretty boring."
"Is it not boring when you're with me?" he asked.
"I am keeping a diary because you forced me to, remember?"
"You just recording things we do in bed?"
Chloe glared at him, her face turning red. "You're talking nonsense!"
Seeing her angry expression, Donovan laughed and continued eating. Chloe checked the time. It was midnight in Aurora Isle, so everyone was still asleep. She could only video call Francis in the evening.
Seeing Donovan still bare-chested, Chloe asked, "Aren't you cold?"
"No."
Since he wasn't cold, Chloe didn't ask further. She knew he was healthy. Every time she got close to him, he felt scorching hot.
After Donovan finished his noodles, Chloe washed the bowl and returned to the bedroom.
"What are you doing this afternoon? How about I join you for a walk?" Chloe said.
"Should I be killed for wasting your precious study time?" Donovan teased. "Aren't intellectual women supposed to value studying above all?"
"Killing is illegal," Chloe said, taking off her glasses and putting on her coat. Donovan also got dressed.
Downstairs, Chloe instinctively grabbed Donovan's arm to head to the bus stop, but Donovan ignored her and went to the parking lot, driving out a luxurious Bugatti.
"It's yours?" Chloe asked in disbelief, standing by the car.
"It's the car from the branch office, which means it's mine. Actually, it's yours too."
Chloe didn't quite understand. She thought she was the guide, planning to show Donovan around. But now she remembered that Donovan had graduated from Willowbrook College and had been in Verdania for years. Plus, the New East Group's Verdania branch had been established long ago.
Chloe suddenly felt a sense of defeat, realizing she was still under his control. She thought she had come a long way, but looking up, she saw she was still in his grasp. Chloe slumped against the back of the car seat, feeling dejected.
"What's wrong?" Donovan asked, turning to look at her.
