Chapter 216 Not Good
Chloe stood there barefoot.
"Chloe, that was an accident. The police have already figured it out. It was an accident," Donovan hugged her, preventing her from collapsing.
"This was no accident, absolutely not an accident. Why didn't the police question me?" Chloe said, tears welling up in her eyes as she stared at Donovan with a hint of resentment. "Amelia had promised to take me out for spaghetti after seeing the house. It couldn't have been an accident!"
"You fainted," Donovan said.
"Where's Amelia? I want to see Amelia." Chloe rushed out barefoot.
Donovan brought her back and put her on the bed.
"Calm down now,.” He looked at Chloe lying on the bed, somewhat calm.
"Where's my mom?" Chloe asked him.
"Evergreen Heights Memorial Park," Donovan replied.
Upon hearing "Evergreen Heights Memorial Park," Chloe completely broke down, crying out loudly and calling for her mom. She then turned to Donovan, fiercely demanding, "What truly happened with Amelia that day? Tell me!”
"It was just an accident!" Donovan firmly held onto the words "accident"!
But Chloe didn't believe him.
She knew Donovan's scheming was beyond her control. What he was determined to hide, she would never know.
"I'm not going to work these days, staying home with you," he said.
Chloe turned away from him, feigning sleep. Donovan had restricted her movements, leaving her helpless and unable to seek the truth.
She understood that she had no choice but to comply with him. The bedroom was the only place where Chloe had any freedom of movement.
Kenneth visited her and expressed his condolences for Amelia's death.
"Chloe, you're doing okay. At least you still have Donovan," Kenneth patted Chloe on the hand and said softly.
Chloe couldn't say anything to Kenneth.
But one thing she was clear about.
' Donovan and Amelia's deaths were linked, leading her to doubt his trustworthiness. His sudden presence in that house was no coincidence.'
After three days, Chloe's emotions began to heal, and she gradually regained her appetite.
"I want to go see Amelia," she said to Donovan that day.
She looked pale and haggard, with no color on her lips, very pitiful.
"I'll go with you," Donovan said.
"Okay. Also, can you give me my phone now?" Chloe asked.
Donovan passed her the phone, showing numerous unread WhatsApp messages from recent days.
The messages were all unread.
Brayden, Sofia, Ann…
Many people told Chloe "not to be sad."
Barbara had been messaging Chloe as well. Given that she was at the top of the message list, it's likely that she had been in communication with Chloe.
However, Donovan had deleted the conversation's content, indicating that he must have read all the messages on her phone.
He was aware that Amelia had wanted to make spaghetti for Chloe before she passed away, so he intentionally stopped Maya from preparing it.
After quickly freshening up, she hopped into the car with Donovan and headed to Evergreen Heights Memorial Park.
Amidst the tumultuous days that followed, Chloe instinctively shielded her face from the sunlight when it shone on her.
Despite the hot weather, the atmosphere at Evergreen Heights Memorial Park was already chilly.
Chloe knelt in front of Amelia's grave, touching Amelia's tombstone.
Donovan stood to the side.
" Amelia, you promised to take me out for spaghetti after looking at the house; why did you leave so soon? I waited for you for six years, and you only just woke up. I wanted you to witness me passing the CPA exam, starting a family, and growing old. I envisioned having you by my side when I'm sixty, but now you're gone. Why did you have to leave so early, Mom?" Chloe's tears flowed uncontrollably, like beads falling off a broken string.
Because Donovan was there, she didn't say anything else.
In fact, she really wanted to ask Amelia what really happened that day! Donovan was there, too!
Chloe recalled the phone call from Donovan, informing her about his plan to track down Gordon. The BlueOcean Estate Group was initially owned by Gordon, and his worn-out appearance seemed to be tied to that property.
Chloe sensed there was a deeper connection in play, something she wasn't aware of.
Consequently, she chose to conceal her true emotions from Donovan.
As they headed back, Chloe informed Donovan that she intended to stay at Amelia's house for a few days.
"I'll go with you," Donovan said.
"No need. I want to be alone for a while."
"No!" Donovan said without any consideration.
There was no room for negotiation.
Chloe turned her head to the side, remaining silent. He likely feared she would uncover more of the truth.
Donovan instructed the driver to take the car to Amelia's neighborhood.
When Chloe attempted to open Amelia's house door, she discovered it was locked.
"Who is it!" Karen's voice came.
As she opened the door, she was surprised to see Chloe standing there.
Karen was initially prepared to mock Chloe, but her demeanor quickly shifted when she noticed Donovan standing behind her.
"Come in, please," Karen said, "Chloe is coming back to stay! Jacob and I are living in Amelia's room now, and you can stay in your original bedroom. Jacob has gone to work. I didn't expect something like that to happen to Amelia."
Karen was well aware of the events that had transpired. It was highly probable that Gordon had pushed Amelia. What she had done previously was pivotal, as she had managed to deceive Gordon into thinking that Amelia was actually her mother, Sarah. Karen then shed a few insincere tears.
"You and Jacob stay in a hotel these days; I'll cover the expenses," Donovan said coldly to Karen.
"You're staying here too?" Karen looked at Donovan with a seductive gaze.
"Yes."
"Alright then." Karen was very disappointed. It would be so exciting if she could live under the same roof as Donovan and observe him in daily life.
Now, she had to think of Jacob as Donovan at night to fall asleep, to avoid thinking of Jacob's creepiness.
Karen went back to her room to pack up, "I'll find a hotel later and inform you."
"No need. I'll just send money to Jacob."
Donovan immediately called out Karen's plan to add him on WhatsApp. Karen appeared disappointed and left the situation.
