Chapter 644 "This must be Mrs. Blake, right?"
"Why are you heading to Pearl Peak City?" Chloe asked.
"Jake's got some mental health stuff going on, and Cynthia asked me to check it out."
Chloe snorted. She perked up at the mention of Pearl Peak City, but now her eyes were shut again.
"What’s that supposed to mean?" Donovan asked, gently running his fingers through Chloe's hair.
"Every time Cynthia calls, you jump," Chloe snapped.
Donovan felt a smug satisfaction. "Isn't that why I'm calling you?"
Chloe didn't respond and turned away. She had to go; she didn't have any classes tomorrow anyway.
The next day, after Chloe got into Donovan's car, they didn't head straight to Pearl Peak City but instead went to Maple Valley.
"Aren't we supposed to be going to Pearl Peak City?" Chloe was dressed to the nines today. She knew one thing for sure: men are all the same. Before marriage, they're like bees to flowers, but they don't stick around. Once they've had their fill, they move on. Chloe had to be cautious.
When they pulled up in front of a villa named "Abigail Psychological Counseling," the car stopped.
A woman got in and sat in the back seat.
"This must be Mrs. Blake?" Abigail asked.
"Yep."
Chloe recognized her. This was the beautiful woman who had driven Donovan home yesterday, and she was already pretty annoyed.
"Mrs. Blake, you're stunning, even more so than a celebrity."
Donovan found the compliment pleasing but responded coolly, "Is that so?"
"Absolutely. She's got this grand, radiant look. She's young now, but in a few years, she'll be even more gorgeous. You might not even be a match for her then," Abigail added.
Abigail was indeed smooth with her words, and Chloe's anger started to fade.
When they arrived at Crystalview Hospital in Pearl Peak City, Cynthia walked out of the ward and saw two women standing next to Donovan—one beautiful and one intellectual. Both seemed better than her, and Cynthia felt a surge of displeasure and jealousy.
She thought Donovan would come alone this time. It seemed her wish to have some alone time with Donovan was dashed.
Donovan didn't directly introduce Abigail's profession, only her name.
They all entered Jake's ward.
Abigail said something to Jake, and he visibly tried to move to the corner.
Abigail was taken aback.
Cynthia looked helpless and on the verge of tears. "Donovan, I'm a single woman with a child. What am I supposed to do?"
Chloe glanced at Donovan, thinking: Should I just let you have Donovan?
The three of them didn't leave that day. After leaving the hospital, Cynthia invited them to have a meal at the school. During the meal, she remained gloomy, as if she couldn't find anyone to help her raise the child, and her life was falling apart.
"How much money do you need?" Donovan asked directly.
Cynthia was stunned.
"You don't have to repay the $400,000 you borrowed, and I'll give you an additional $5 million for Jake's medical expenses," Donovan added.
It was clear he couldn't take on the responsibility of Jake until adulthood. If he did, Cynthia would cling to him for life.
Cynthia didn't want money; she wanted Donovan. But Donovan had already transferred the money.
It seemed like Chloe and Donovan couldn't be separated.
Several times, every time she saw Donovan, Cynthia felt worse, as if she was making futile efforts. This feeling grew stronger, and she became increasingly agitated.
