Chapter 201 A Cold Isn't a Big Deal
In the night, Donovan pressed down on Chloe, teasing a rise out of her.
"You caught a cold." Chloe instinctively pushed him away.
"Catching a cold isn't a big deal," he said.
In fact, he did not feel sick at all with the nasally tone of his voice being the only indicator of his cold.
"I'm worried you might get tired," Chloe said. "This is very exhausting."
"I don't feel that tired."
Just then, a man could be heard shouting from downstairs.
Faintly, Chloe also heard someone moving about.
Donovan froze. He furrowed his brows slightly and said, "I'll go check it out."
After saying that, he went downstairs.
Chloe finally breathed a sigh of relief and slipped into bed, hoping to fall asleep quickly before Donovan returned to avoid being disturbed.
Not long after, the scolding downstairs made Chloe tremble even more.
It sounded like Donovan was scolding his father.
Chloe had never seen such a strange father-son relationship where the father didn't say a word when scolded by his son.
"You left us all back then. Who do you think you're scaring with your return?
"Don't let me hear any more noise from you!"
It seemed even Donovan's grandfather was alarmed as Donovan stopped to have a few words with his grandfather downstairs.
Chloe was scared enough into behaving herself.
When Donovan came back up, he leaned against the head of the bed and irritably lit a cigarette.
Chloe cautiously tugged at his shirt.
"Behave. Go to sleep first." He stroked Chloe's head.
"W-What's wrong with dad?" Chloe blinked her watery eyes and asked Donovan.
"Gordon has a serious mental illness, triggered whenever he sees people from the past." Donovan took a deep drag of his cigarette. "Today, he saw the Perez family."
"He has been abroad, getting treatment all this time?" Chloe asked.
"Yes. He's basically better now and no different from an ordinary person. He's been teaching abroad."
Chloe thought about it until she fell asleep, but she didn't sleep well all night.
The next day, when Chloe woke up, she saw that Donovan was still asleep. Once more, she didn't know what time he fell asleep the night before.
Chloe touched his forehead. It was burning up.
"You have a fever." Chloe gently shoved Donovan awake.
Maybe he caught a cold last night because of the rain. The heating at home was off, and it was quite cold at night. When he went downstairs, he wasn't wearing much either.
Chloe quickly got up and went downstairs to get medicine for him.
Maya called out to Chloe in the kitchen.
"Chloe, Donovan probably caught a cold. I made him some herbal tea, but I'm afraid if I bring it to him, he won't drink it. Can you take it to him?" Clara whispered to Chloe.
Chloe was slightly stunned for a moment. "Okay."
People said parents were the humblest beings in the world. No matter how their children treat them, they will selflessly give and give.
Reminded of Amelia, Chloe softened as she looked at Clara's earnest eyes,.
Moreover, Clara had to have noticed that Donovan caught a cold last night.
That was why she made him some herbal tea.
Who knew how long she waited?
Perhaps Amelia was someone Chloe could not think of without summoning as she called Chloe as soon as Chloe had finished speaking.
"Mom." Chloe walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. "What's up?"
"Chloe, are you free to talk now?" Amelia sounded a bit hesitant.
"I'm free. Go ahead."
"If you're free tonight, come home for a bit. I have something to tell you."
Chloe said, "Okay. I'm usually free after work."
Making pizza for Donovan was not a big deal, and it could be done in the future.
After hanging up the phone, Chloe returned to the kitchen.
"Mom, I'll take it to him in a bit. just now, I touched his forehead, and it was hot," Chloe said to Clara.
"It's okay, I added some fever reducers. He caught a cold last night, and it was still freezing cold when he went downstairs," Clara said with a touch of pain audible in her voice. "It's so cold these days."
As Clara said this, her voice trembled, making Chloe feel like crying too.
"Okay, I'll take it to him." After saying that, Chloe carried the cup of herbal tea upstairs.
