Chapter 243 He's Too Ruthless

Catching sight of Brayden with the car keys in hand and ready to head out, Ronald instructed the maid to intercept him.
"Where are you going in the middle of the night? You know well that she belongs to another man!" Ronald exploded in anger.
"They are already divorced. And their marriage was not pure to begin with," Brayden said as he hurriedly put on his coat.
His intuition told him something was amiss with Chloe, or else she wouldn't have just sent a single "okay" at this late hour.
"Why did you let her move out? Can't you tolerate her presence?" Brayden questioned.
"Brayden, is this the way you talk to me? She is someone else's woman, and the child she's carrying might not even be yours! If it's not Donovan's child, why would he come to take Chloe away? And Chloe seemed quite happy when she was packing. You're just a joke in their quarrel. Aren't you ashamed?" Ronald was utterly disappointed in Brayden.
Brayden was left speechless by the rebuttal.
As a young man in his prime, the maids in the house were naturally no match for him.
He quickly got into the car and headed straight to Chloe's house.
Half an hour later, Brayden arrived at the doorstep and rang the doorbell.
Upon hearing the doorbell, Chloe immediately bounced off the sofa and went to open the door.
Seeing Brayden standing at the door, she felt completely relaxed.
Donovan was initially puzzled, wondering who the first visitor to the house was just after they moved in. But when he saw it was Brayden, he wasn't surprised. There was no need to ask. Chloe must have told him the house's location.
Chloe had been sitting here the whole time, not chatting with him. She was waiting for Brayden. She was afraid that if the person at the door were Brayden, Donovan would turn Brayden away.
'She was really thoughtful!' Donovan sneered inwardly.
"Here you are!" Chloe said with relief.
"Yes. Are you okay?" Brayden looked at Chloe and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw she was fine.
Brayden followed Chloe into the house.
Donovan, sitting in the living room, kept glancing towards the door.
"I need to talk to Brayden." Chloe greeted Donovan and then pulled Brayden into her room.
She was so scared. Only now did she truly relax.
"I was so scared, so scared." Chloe patted her chest.
"What happened?" Brayden asked.
Chloe whispered to Brayden about the incident that had just occurred, fearful that Donovan might hurt the unborn child in her womb.
"Do you think I should tell him they are his babies?" Chloe asked Brayden.
Brayden thought for a moment and then said, "What he said probably has nothing to do with you. It's probably about Karen."
"Karen?" Chloe was surprised and asked, "What does Karen have to do with it?"
"I overheard Ronald on the phone the other day. It seems like Donovan had someone abort Karen's child. Maybe it was related to Gordon," Brayden whispered to Chloe.
Chloe sat down on the bed, her gaze blank.
It was true that she didn't like Karen, and she used to hate Jacob, but she found it too cruel of Donovan to abort someone else's baby secretly.
Now, as a soon-to-be mother, she couldn't bear to hear such things and found Donovan terrifying.
She didn't want to talk about the child with Brayden anymore, so she changed the subject and spoke about the affairs of the office.
Brayden said it was the end of the year, a busy time, and Chloe was pregnant, so he was hiring a new auditor.
"What are the requirements for the new auditor?" Chloe asked.
She was pregnant now, trying to ease her mind.
"At least a master's degree and a certified public accountant license," Brayden said, sitting next to Chloe's desk in the bedroom.
"It seems like with my level, I'm not even qualified to apply," Chloe said casually, but she felt a bit uneasy inside. There were many people in the country with her level of qualifications. Although she was capable, she had little work experience and only a bachelor's degree.
"It's not the same. Many highly educated talents still have to work for the wealthy," Brayden comforted Chloe.
Chloe smiled again.
She looked at the time on her phone and realized it was already one in the morning.
She had just chatted with Brayden for two hours.
"It's so late. I've kept you for too long," Chloe said anxiously.
"It's okay. It's your first day moving in, so it's reasonable for me to come and see you." Brayden casually twirled a pen on Chloe's desk.
This pen was what Chloe had used to write her diary just now.
"Alright. It's late. I won't keep you any longer." Chloe said, "You've dispelled my doubts."
"I hope you won't have more worries," Brayden said.
Chloe lowered her head, feeling even more anxious now because of Donovan's character.
'He's too ruthless.' Chloe thought.
"Oh, and about this, you must never tell Jacob," Chloe cautioned.
Brayden looked deeply at Chloe. "Not telling Jacob... You're afraid he'll seek revenge and cause trouble for him."
Chloe took a step back. It was just her instinctive reaction, and she didn't think much about it.
"I didn't think much about it, and neither should you," Chloe hurriedly said.
After a moment of silence, Brayden said, "Chloe, you know that the most genuine feelings are those that come from instinct, right?"
Chloe was stunned for a moment, her lips trembling, but she couldn't utter a word.
"I'm leaving." Then, Brayden opened the door of Chloe's bedroom and left.
