Chapter 52 Is She Afraid of Divorce?

Donovan's lunch was delivered to the finance department. This gesture quieted the previously buzzing room, shifting the women's gaze from curious to envious. After all, Chloe had been just an ordinary employee like the rest of them. What made her so special? Beyond her pretty face, which in these times was hardly a rare commodity, what did she have?

She had just moved out of the Blake household a few days ago, and now it seemed she was back in favor.

“I’m full already.” Chloe looked up at the secretary uncomfortably, “Please take it back to him.”

“Mr. Blake has already eaten. He specifically brought this for you,” said the secretary.

“Thank you, then.” Unable to refuse, Chloe decided she would eat it after work.

After tidying her desk, she received a WhatsApp friend request from something called “Fragrant Grass Styling.” Assuming it was an advertisement, she didn’t accept it.

Moments later, her phone rang. It was Donovan.

“Why didn’t you accept the WhatsApp request?” His voice was typically untroubled, carrying a hint of frost.

Chloe didn't think she had upset him that day, so she assumed his tone wasn't about her.

“What request?”

“Fragrant Grass Styling. They need to make a dress for you. Accept it.” He hung up after speaking.

Chloe found the situation baffling and didn’t understand why she needed a dress made. Donovan hadn’t elaborated, so she didn't ask.

She accepted the WhatsApp request.

In an ingratiating tone, the message came through:[Mrs. Blake, could you send us a full-body photograph? We want to design a cocktail dress that suits your style. Mr. Blake has already provided your measurements, but we need to tailor the color and fit to match your personality.]

Chloe sent the photograph.

The stylist assured: [We'll have the dress ready in three days, and you're sure to be pleased.]

Chloe had a lot on her plate that day and didn’t dwell much on the matter of dress.
Around four o'clock, Chloe felt a bit hungry, an urge that normally would have sent her straight home for a meal. However, Donovan's food was sitting on the table, and she didn't want it to go to waste.

She took the meal to the break room, only to find, unluckily, that the microwave had broken down again.

Opening the lunchbox, she saw a layer of heart-shaped ketchup on Donovan's food. It seemed like he was the only one in the entire company who enjoyed such special treatment. Paisley was well aware that Donovan was married, so why would she still decorate his meal with a heart?

The food wasn't too cold, so Chloe ate it anyway. Donovan had even thoughtfully removed the egg yolks.

Seeing this, Chloe couldn't help but smile sweetly, touched by the gesture.

Perhaps it was her uplifted spirits that made the meal satisfyingly content.

After work, she got into Donovan's car. He looked rather stern.

"Who upset you?" Chloe asked.

"You!" he replied tersely.

Confused and a bit indignant, she thought to herself that she hadn't even seen him today—how could she have annoyed him? She kept silent, turning her head to look out the window, knowing that more conversation might just lead to more false accusations.

"Saturday, I have plans to take someone out for dinner, and that's when I'm wearing the suit," Donovan abruptly remarked.

"Wait, aren't we supposed to keep our marriage under wraps? Is it really okay for me to go out with you?" Chloe asked, a note of worry in her voice.

"The marriage is slowly becoming common knowledge. We can't hide it anymore. It doesn't matter," Donovan said, his gaze fixed on the road ahead while steering with one hand.

Chloe felt a pang of frustration. It may not matter to him—a wealthy man could easily remarry, even for a second, and still be desirable. But what about her future? If they ever divorced, wouldn't everyone think she walked away with half of Donovan's fortune and only chased her for the money?

She tried to shake off these unhappy thoughts.

Initially, she had been grateful that Donovan had removed the egg yolks for her, but now his apparent disregard for her situation soured her feelings once again. Her emotions today were like a roller coaster—all thanks to Donovan.

"Why the long face?" Donovan turned to glance at her briefly.

"It's nothing," she replied, with an unavoidable trace of hurt in her voice.

"Are you worried about being undesirable if we get divorced in the future?" he asked with a hint of mockery. "You're thinking pretty far ahead."
Donovan's keen observation made Chloe inevitably feel embarrassed, and she decided to lean against the car and pretend to doze off.
